So I have seen many fools say they want power and act like power is something they need and is great.

I can't help but dislike those kinds of people and regard them as naive.

Power is like knowledge it's a strong force but it won't get you anywhere alone.

I find the idea of pursuing power to be silly and immature because you should
Be seeking knowledge and that will become your power.

Just want people's opinions ...lately I have heard people say they want power of need it to protect stuff etc etc and it comes off to me as the person in question is bad news and a time bomb waiting to happen.

Knowledge is power. If you have knowledge you already have power.

Those who say they want power are highly likely not even sure how to use it.

Those who think they have power are puppets to those who actually know how to use power.

Maybe fools want power because they're uh... fools. I don't know enough people to answer this question well. In a fight power will best knowledge but knowledge has more perks in comparison. I guess fools want power because of the immediate spike rather than the bonus perks you get with knowledge or something.

Power is entirely contextual to the issue at hand. It's not a tangible thing, it's the ability and means through which actions are accomplished. A statement of the desire for power is a generalization of those actions, and possibly an under-appreciation for what it takes to bring those actions about.

*Many fools pine for power, many fools abdicate power. What makes them fools is the wisdom to realize what's needed at the right times.

But who says that? What do you mean by power? Do you mean like strength or they want to be someone important in the government or something?

There need to be further elaboration when you say "power". Plus if one thinks something is beneficial to her/him then that's all there is to it, even if there's objectively something even more beneficial . Pursuing power is naturally not necessarily more childish than doing the same to knowledge as the words childish would need a context to fit in as a description.

The desire for power is purely an ego thing. If you desire power then its because you think you're going to use it better than anyone else to solve whatever problem you believe to exist. Or maybe the person who wants power just has a goal they want to accomplish and view getting power as the best means to do so.

The difference is that some people's egos are tempered enough to keep them from abusing their power and allows them to recognize the limits of what they can or should do. And some, the "fools" mentioned in the OP, think they can do as they please because they lack any control over their own egos.

Fools want power because they know others see them for what they really are and they want to hide that fact. Like a crooked politician, a shady televangelist or a loudmouth radio DJ they just love playing the snake oil salesman to deal with their own inadequacies and insecurities.

So you believe that seeking power is useless?

So then If we didn't seek power I guess we wouldn't really be capable of anything. We would just leave things as they are. So we wouldn't be on the internet, and we wouldn't have technology, and we would pretty much have no other way to communicate with others unless we are talking face to face.

Oh you mean like the normal way of life? That is what you want? I think that would be a nice change of pace. People wouldn't have to live against each other ( Lol probably scratch that one out), and we would ultimately help each other through human interaction.

Well it all sounds nice, but I guarantee almost everyone wouldn't want to let go of this powerful life style we have now, I guess you can still see the natural powerless life on a documentary, you know like those ones where the powerful people have cameras and they record the powerless, I'm not joking, I'm just telling the truth. In all honesty we humor what we now call a primitive life style when in reality we still use it to this day. To not want to seek power is to not want change, but you have to remember that humanity is evil, and the only way to stop it is to become powerful.

So yeah, just a thought , before you think that power is pointless remember that you can post on this forum whenever you choose to

Absolutely this. Well said.

To add to this. Wanting power doesn't really make you a fool. There's nothing wrong with trying to accomplish whatever goal you're seeking power for. Sometimes people will stray off their path and go down one that's not so desirable. It's simply the way of the world. Also most of the time, you need the smarts to be able to pull off whatever you're try to do. I'm sure someone else has already said that knowledge is power. This is the way it is today, and it's certainly the way it always was. So tell me, why exactly is it foolish to want power?

No more the point of seeking power itself is useless.

Power is meaningless without the knowledge to apply it

To rule over fools.

Seems everyone already commented... but everyone knows knowledge is power. The people who don't seek it just don't have the motivation. Power shouldn't automatically mean evil. If they want to protect something then I think that's great.
