Who was the original YANDERE?

Some people are saying Yukako from JOJO but others disagree.
So who was the first YANDERE?
Also who your favorite YANDERE?
Mine is Yuno Gasai.

Hahaha, you really took it all the way to the origin.
In anime the earliest character that I remember is Kotonoha from School days.

Lady Rokujo, from Genji Monogatari, which was written in the eleventh century I believe by a noblewoman. It is generally considered to be the first novel.

Damn you really hit the nail on head right away, nice job. I was excited to share that information that I can neither confirm nor deny I learned from an ero manga that's all about "a modern take on genji" lol

Minamoto no Monogatari? Well, close enough. I've read a bit of that, but I've also read the actual Genji Monogatari. Rokujo is fairly scary.

The Japanese folktale of Kiyohime says she transformed into a dragon and burned the guy alive after he pretty much rejected her.
Not sure how old the story is, but that sounds pretty yandere.

That's how she looks in Fate/Grand Order
