As for the deal with the Ghostbusters remake....people are seriously acting like it's their duty to go see this movie and bitch about how feminism ruined it all. No one is putting a freaking gun to their heads to go see this stupid movie. Dont' want to watch it, go rent the original instead. Problem solved.

No, more that it's a case that we know--we KNOW, for a FACT, from experience--that it's going to be like Kingdom of the Crystal Skull allllll over again:
Yes, the trailers suggest to any sane individual that they dropped the ball big-time, but you know there's still that chaos-factor of at least a few million jerks on Friday night acting like it's their "duty" to celebrate their nostalgic childhood of thirty years ago, and that you "gotta" go see a movie with the title on it anyway because it's "traditional".

Do some people feel I personally harbor a burning resentment to big loud showoff 80's nostalgic man-children who went to see Indy:KOTCS anyway, no matter how incoherently awful and anticlimactic it was, and didn't even know Speed Racer was playing in the theater next door? That could be part of it, but that doesn't mean the movie itself wasn't to blame.
And with Sony's current posters now showing ONLY the 80's-retro logo and hiding McCarthy & co. off until the last minute, it's pretty clear they know on which big, loud showoff, 80's-nostalgic man-children their bread is buttered. (Ever hear of a big, loud showoff 80's-nostalgic woman-child?...Except for the Jem movie, that is.)
That's Sony SHOWING us the instrument of our torture before hand. And we sit and wait for the nails to scrape against the chalkboard as they grab all those opening-weekend numbers and say "The #1 movie this weekend--America LOVES Melissa! We've got a sequel in production, and we're looking at a linked-universe crossover with Jumanji and Goosebumps! "

It's not being Angry Fanboy(tm) to champion the fight for truth against studio tyranny and injustice, and to pre-emptively destroy the proliferation of weapons of mass franchise-destruction.
For the good of mankind, this one's gotta go down on Friday night. Anyone who thinks "Sure it sucks, but I loved the original so much I'll sneak one viewing anyway; the theater'll probably be empty, so what could it hurt?", you are part of the problem, and you will make us all pay for your mistake for the next decade--Bite the bullet and rent, it'll probably be pre-ordering on digital the same night anyway.

Crystal Skull wasn't a bad movie. Neither was Speed Racer. I really couldn't care much about this Ghostbusters thing, as I have no idea who any of the actors are, even Melissa McCarthy, who I think is Jenny McCarthy's baby fat?

Generally speaking he has a point about fandom petulance but I find the article to be unbearably lacking in a lot of areas. And Faraci is kind of a dick. There was his unkind, dismissive, and thoroughly wrongheaded remarks about anime disparaging it as immature and childish wish fulfillment, which reeked something awful of a lack of self-consciousness given his fondness for a comics industry of grown men wearing tights and undies. But his opinion on gatekeeping was what cinched it. Fandom's entire issue to me is predicated on it's elitist attitudes, so I'm not going to castigate someone for enjoying something I like the wrong way.

So yeah while Faraci and I fall generally on the same side of a lot of the internet bullshit that's happened these last few years, I've always thought he was kind of a prick from those ISIS comments he made all the way back when the hashtag which must not be named was still in it's infancy. Time has not done much to dissuade me from that initial impression.

Honestly? I see why people would be pissed off about Mass Effect. It was a little less creative freedom and more like they didn't care about creating an experience that taken the previous choices into consideration.

It's because it's Sony, and we know they're just pasting Instant Project Rescue #4 on it, because the first three (#1 - Pretend it's still fresh, #2 - New-blood recasting, #3 - Nostalgic 3D) failed.
Okay, it's Sony, we're used to it by now.
okey being a necro king, since the movie is out with ghosts so I revived an old buster of mine.
