So, esports is slowly on the rise....and I like it.

Here's a handy dandy list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_eSports_games

How do you feel about esports? Legitimate? Something you are interested in? How much potential do you see?

For some reason, I just keep imagining Minesweeper as an esport, with everyone trying to complete the same layout. I feel like it would be a lot like the real sports version of golf.

Imagine a sports commentators in that soft, calm golf voice.

Announcer 1 - "It appears that Minemaster289769039884 is now going for the click. He hesitates. And the click is good."

Announcer 2 - "Yes, and that click may be the deciding click for this tournament, John. Minemaster289769039884 started off rocky, but it looks like he'll come out with a strong finish. Minemaster289769039884 may very well be the champion of this 2045 Minesweeper Winter Invitational."

Announcer 1 - "Yes, and Clickbythenumbers20 had a strong showing in the tournament, early on, and gave Minemaster289769039884 quite the challenge. It is safe to say that early on, Clickbythenumbers20 was the fan favorite."

Announcer 2 - "Indeed, John. It certainly has been an exciting Minesweeper tournament. And if you're just joining us at home, welcome to the 2045 Minesweer Winter Invitational. This is the 15th year of Minesweeper as an Esport, and it's becoming increasingly popular."

Announcer 1 - "Yes. Minesweeper originated in the 1960s, almost a century ago, but as you said, it has only become an Esport within the past few years."

Announcer 2 - "Exactly, John. You could say that there is no other Esport with this much history."

I love it. I feel that it is a valid form of entertainment - would go as far as to say that if I had to choose nothing but esports or reality TV for an entire year, I'd go with esports.

But, what you seem to be discussing is whether or not esports are really sports.... which I have no interest in arguing.

This idiocy mentality of video games not requiring strategy skill planning thinking is retarded. I don't have time for this. By the way honey sleeping is a sport in Europe. Yes. Many of the esport video games take a lot of strategy, skill, and team work to do well. Not to mention, just as any sport, natural talent plays a role.

Athletic sports only vary in that they require different skill sets and physical fitness. They are different, but they are both very legit competitions.

I like playing some sports. I like playing and watching esports.

How do you feel about esports?
I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

Legitimate?
If people care about it and are willing to show up then it's as legitimate as any other competition.

Something you are interested in?
Not really. I haven't seen enough to really decide though.

How much potential do you see?
I saw "The International" DOTA competition on Steam. I didn't understand the game, but the production was very polished and professional. After watching a bit it seems clear the industry is attracting a lot of interest and money, so I would say lots of potential.

yeah but I just think its a bit much random luck in it.
But again some is not.
From what weapon to use and when.
To where to go, place yourself, attack or defend.
Reaction time and so on.
But I just find it better use in StarCraft then CS.

Since our current understanding of matter is that at a subatomic level things don't exist in a position but rather a superposition, then assuming this is true and our human understanding is unable to transcend this reality, anything that takes place in physical space is relegated to luck at the absolute highest limit of interaction. Thus anything involving motion, including meat sports, involves some degree of luck regardless of how many factors you attempt to control for.

That said, meat sports aren't even played at that level, not even close. Refs make bad calls EVERY SINGLE SEASON and that's something players have 0 control over (i.e. it's luck).
