This issue started a month ago. When I watch anime on my Android phone (Samung Galaxy S6 Edge), episodes will play normally except that every 30 second or so, the subtitle line disappears immediately after it appears not giving the reader nearly enough time to read what it says. This continues to happen for the whole episode and it doesn't appear to be happening in only one anime. I've tried clearing all my app data and reinstalling the app. It sometimes fixes the issue after a few hours of doing this but it only seems to fix it for a day or two and then the problem comes back. I'm not sure if it has something to do with being logged in on my Xbox One and my computer but this was never a problem until about a month or so. Is anyone else having this problem? I love the convenience of using my phone to watch anime and it never freezes when I use it but having one of every ten lines of dialogue get cut off before you can read it really breaks immersion.

The videos that are served to the apps have hard coded subtitles meaning they are burned into the video itself rather than being overlaid. This means that the app shouldn't be able to mess up the timing. Can you give me an example of where you see this happening? Does it also happen at the same place on your other devices and on PC?

Sure. This happens on effectively every show. For example, today I watched episode 56 of Hunter x Hunter. When I tried watching on my phone, every 30 seconds or so, the line of subtitles would appear for about 0.2-0.5 seconds and then disappear well before the character finished speaking. I got frustrated and went on to my PC and my Xbox One to try it out but no such issue occurred. The places where the subtitles cut out on my phone were staying on screen for the full 2-3 seconds that they should normally be on screen for all other devices. I figured this was a phone problem before but it doesn't always happen when I clear all my app data and reinstall the app a few times, readd shows to my queue, and wait a few hours. I just can't figure it out. There doesn't seem to be any one action I take that immediately fixes the issue. It just kinda fixes itself eventually if I do a bunch of troubleshooting things and then it comes back after a day or two. The only thing I can suspect is something to do with being logged in on the same account on multiple devices or some issue with the way the coding is running on an S6 Edge since I never had this problem on my old phone which was an S4.

Alright, so I was just able to reproduce the same issue on my Android phone as well (Nexus 6 in this case). There doesn't seem to be a problem with the iOS streams, though. I'll pass this up the chain to see if they can look into it, but it might take a while for a fix depending on where the problem is. Good catch on the problem, though.

Just to add to this, I have just eliminated the app as a potential problem. It is definitely in the encoding process, the files are indeed different.

I'm just glad the problem has been acknowledged. Proper diagnosis is more than half the battle. I'll probably stick to my other devices for now and check any patching notes on future updates. Thanks for the support.

I know this thread is old, but it's the only one I could find with a similar issue. However, it's happening in the Windows App. I've only been watching GATE, but it's been happening on every episode just as TheBagelWarrior described. Could it be a similar issue?

Not only that, I've noticed that some subtitles aren't even showing up. When I watch it in Chrome/Firefox it doesn't happen.

Is it an older episode?
