Let me know if a thread like this one exist or not.
Thanks a bunches.

So, there are two religious people. One is sane while the other is a fanatic. What is separating them when some people think religion is nothing but fanatical? What makes the sane religious person more tolerable than the fanatic? Why does the fanatic get look down for being religious? What separates the two people?

Bonus Question:
1) Do some people really think mental illness and religion go hand in hand?

Enjoy!!!

I do not necessarily equivocate "religious fanaticism" and insanity, I see any form of martyrism as fanaticism which includes being persecuted for and dying for ones religion peacefully.

That being said, those that kill and persecute in the name of their religion I regard as insane.

Bonus question : I don't personally believe religion and mental illness go 'hand in hand'.

Wait a minute! Why was my thread reported to the mods? I just ask a curious question.

I didn't report your thread! My response was also reported, it might be a troll.

Yeah, might be.

Insane ones are those who hear voices in their head, think speaking in tongues mean communicating with an imaginary being, and think that killing people means it's a good thing.

Imo, the fanatics are the ones that are intolerant of other beliefs and actively try to force people to convert WITHOUT being influenced to do so. I can see how people would associate it with mental illness, but it's usually something else fueling the crazy.

- "A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject".

Good old Winston Churchill seemed to have had it figured out.

The sane is the one who follows what they preach and who preaches the good news.
The fanatic is the hypocrites who believe themselves holier than thou and who preach of wrath and must make themselves a spectacle.

Is the last option "I don't know if I know" or "No, I don't know?"

fanatics are people who operate in their idealized version of what the world should be and refuse to understand that they live in a world where people may not seem things the same way they do. There isn't anything wrong with being religious. Religious fanatics are people who ignore realism for idealism and attempt to force their perspectives on others. Fanaticism goes to the point where people would consider harming others for the sake of their belief. I hold religious views and i believe it is nice when others seem things from my point of view. However, i do understand that people will never accept your belief when you attempt to cram it down others throats and you use your religion as a platform to justify hateful acts against others. That is fanaticism. A regular religious person can live their life the way they want and calmly discuss their beliefs without responding in a hateful manner towards someone with an alternate viewpoint.
