Both. My mothers's side of the family tans extremely fast, so do I. But about 14 years ago I've decided to avoid the sun because I simply prefer the Snow-White-Look on me and because I prefer to have one skin colour and not several of it. Of course, 14 years of avoiding the sun means my skin isn't really used to it anymore. That's why I burn first before I tan.

I'm pretty sure a fine column of smoke starts rising if I'm out in the sun for 10 minutes.

Both, but I don't expose myself to direct sunlight. One, because it would be stupid to, and two, because black ink burns in sunlight more than you can possibly imagine.

I don't burn easily since I'm black, but I do tan a bit if I'm out in the sun for reaaaaly long time.

I burn once, and then tan afterwards. My grandmother was apart of the Cherokee tribe, so I still have a nice amount of Native American blood in me which helps me get pretty dark if I'm out for more than an hour at a time.

I'm Asian, I don't usually burn I just tan. But I try to avoid being out in the sun as much as possible, and if I have to I always put on sunblock, wear wide-brimmed hat & sunglasses

Depending on the location/climate. The hotter/humid/more tropical the area, I might burn red the first half hour. Then I caramelize to a golden bronze. It makes me look even more ambiguous. If I'm in a mild climate on a summer day, I just get a slight tan. My face tans first before anything else.

Burn then tan, only way to do it. I don't even use sunscreen anymore. Just burn natural and tan natural, but I don't go over board to where it starts peeling anymore. I know how much exposure is enough.
