Wanting validation I don't think is selfish at all OP. Everybody wants to be liked.

What an odd question, one must find life's meaning by living it, no one has the same back grounds but in general, happiness is a choice, sadness an illusion, joy but a thought away! Or the opposite might be true for you?

Yes, but then again, everyone is selfish, even if you do something for someone else, it is self-satisfaction, you do it because 'you' want to. Low self esteem normally means you're scared. You want meaning to come from others, and if others revoke you, your meaning and your very existence fades.

We're social creatures. Is it wrong too want a level of validation from those around you. If it's selfish then what is selfishness? Is selfishness wrong or right?

seeing urself as not worth the time...ehhh kinda see it as all about number 1...but humans are social creatures so validation for ones life by others is human nature...

Thanks a bunches.

So, are people with low self esteem a little bit selfish? Is there a difference between low self esteem and selfishness?

My Turn:

I have low self esteem and I can't stand being hated by anyone. The thought of being hated by someone is like being killed. I can't stand it. I have to be liked or on someone's good side because if I'm not I'm practically dead. But I hate feeling like this and I don't want to have low self esteem. But it's hard to get rid of. I can see a therapist and talk about my problems but is that enough. I feel like I'm selfish too because of my low self esteem. Does anyone else feel like this? Do you know someone who is like this? How does one slowly get over their low self esteem?

Enjoy!!!!

My low self esteem usually has to do with women and my confidence with them. I did however go through a "nice guy syndrome" phase because of it though. Most of this toxicity was bottled up inside and really only came out when people inquired about my situation. One day I sort of decided that way of thinking wasn't going to help my situation and the loneliness that came with it so I've been trying to improve ever since. My lack of self esteem is still there but the selfishness and anger that came with it is under wraps. My honesty and humility are more genuine now and I go forward with a "whatever happens, happens" attitude.
