Post Reply Help with buying a gaming computer/laptop preferably a laptop
Posted 6/12/16
Okay so I'm trying my best to find the best deal I can on a gaming PC/Laptop.

I need to buy a new computer since my current laptop can't really run games really well anymore so I need suggestions on computers that will run games well and that aren't too costly

Current laptop specs

Intel core I3-2350 Processor 2.30ghz

Intel HD Graphics 3000 (Garbage like my processor)

8 GB Ram

450 HDD space

64 bit and the model of my current laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L755.

It is able to run games but very poorly so as said I'd like some suggestions on PCs/laptops that are able to run games really well.

What games do you play? Some are more demanding than others.

My most important question is what is your price range? Without that I cannot help you much. Other questions I have for you include: Are you okay with building the pc yourself or do you want one already made? Do you have a specific brand loyalty that you must have met? What kind of games do you want to run on this new computer?

The max I'd go would be around 1k I suppose.

I'm not a huge fan of building it myself.

Not really as long as it isn't Dell/HP/Acer

As in types of games to be specific. I'd like to run Phantasy Star Online 2 to look and run great and Overwatch. Any other games that are also more graphic intensive would be nice to be able to run as well.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834234041 For laptops is ok i guess.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834890015 This is slightly worse but 200 dollars cheaper.

for desktops
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ibuypower-desktop-intel-core-i7-8gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive-white/4585900.p?id=1219773226138&skuId=4585900 This one is a pretty good price for what you're getting. The graphics card in this one is way superior to the 960m in the other two laptops.

So I did some searching and found this

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011A7GQG8/ref=s9_dcbhz_bw_g147_i3_sh

What are your thoughts on that? (Only issue is I'd have to figure out a way to have internet wireless adapter put in)

Get a desktop. Laptops for gaming are too expensive.

I suggest looking at custom pc at avadirect.

You want an i5, i7 are often overkill. 16gb ram. Graphics card is all about how much you can spend. I suggest minimum gtx660 or the amd equivalent. If you build your own never, ever skimp on the power supply.

Also get a solid state drive. You need to. Feel free to use a hard drive you store your actual games on, but the OS needs to be solid state.

I'm not really sure. I'm not too familiar with AMD related stuff, but I know it is cheaper than buying intel and geforce stuff.

I had also found this which I'm somewhat wanting.

CPU: i5 (any 3GHz+)
Mobo: (any supporting i5 under $130)
RAM: 8 GB (any supporting mobo), 16 GB is, still, redundant
GPU: GTX 970 (cheapest alternative for most optimization, as of now... but should wait until after the summer 2016 before you buy GPU)
PSU: any 500W+ (GTX 970 needs 450W+), if you plan on buying a more expensive, clocked version of e.g. GTX 970, you need 600W or 700W.
HDD (OS): any one SDD (OS rarely needs more than 50 GB, so get 100GB+)
HDD (storage): any one or several SATA (1TB is cheap and solid these days)

These days, as surprising as it may seem, games like Black Desert Online are bottlenecked by hard drive speed. If you can afford to go full SDD, do it, otherwise, keep it to OS only.

For laptop, I can't help you. Laptops are not meant to run computer games. Never has, never will.

740 isn't a good graphics card at all. I'd strongly advise against it.

That is definitely way better than the last one you put. 950 is an entry level graphics card. I think it would run Overwatch on high settings at 60 fps. PSO2 will run on just about any pc nowadays so you'll be fine in that regard too. I'm not sure if there is better value out there, but this one seems pretty good~
