Today marks the first day of International Men's Health week for 2016.

I didn't see a post anywhere regarding Men's Health Week, so I apologize if I missed something. If anyone would like to share any stories or information related to the topic of this thread, please do. :)

I would like to share a Canadian health website (because I'm Canadian) created specifically with men in mind:

http://dontchangemuch.ca/

Take care of yourselves

#ShowUsYourBlue #wearblueday #menshealthweek #menshealthmonth

**FYI**
The purpose of Men’s Health Week is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys.

This week gives health care providers, public policy makers, the media, and individuals an opportunity to encourage men and boys to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for disease and injury.

To quote Congressman Bill Richardson (Congressional Record, H3905-H3906, May 24, 1994):

“Recognizing and preventing men’s health problems is not just a man’s issue.
Because of its impact on wives, mothers, daughters, and sisters, men’s health is truly a family issue.”

*Edit - Prior link posted in error. Link updated below to reflect the American website the above FYI is from.

So, I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are not trolling....

I am sorry you feel this is oppressive, but it's certainly not meant to be cruel or make anyone feel uncomfortable. It's actually a real thing that I think deserves recognition.
Generally/traditionally speaking many men tend to not be very open about anything that may suggest something is "not right" with them - be it a "physical health" or a "mental health" problem. Some may never even be aware of certain health issues that could affect them over the course of their lives.

How many of you are aware of "testicular torsion"? Most common between the ages of 12 and 16:

There is also a women's health week in May every year....

Great article on what is one of the most important determinants of health that is so obvious it's extremely easy to over look and completely fuck up in modern times. Good news is it's not that hard to correct.

Never knew there was such a thing... I guess its quite small in scale like a few other things?
ofc.. canada... is why its never heard off

and that quote

to quote Congressman Bill Richardson (Congressional Record, H3905-H3906, May 24, 1994):

“Recognizing and preventing men’s health problems is not just a man’s issue.

any problem within the family can be a family issue.
How to raise, act to health issues that might be taken out on anyone in the family or create stuff you don't want.
Like the use of alcohol to anger and physical violence.

Only a Canadian thing since June 3, 2014. The USA enacted this 20 years before Canada.

" SJR 179 was substituted for HJR 209 and passed the U.S. House of Representatives on May 24, 1994. President Clinton signed the bill on May 31, 1994 thereby establishing National Men’s Health Week."
