Depends.

Think of it like this. I have a health bar, and the more stupid I read, the less inclined I feel to participate in a thread.

Now, to be honest, I used to have a much longer health bar, but my computer broke. And it takes way too long to type a message for me to waste time reading comments that I can wave off with a simple sentence or two.

Why not argue for this long? As long as it's not something stupid or whatever it's not gonna affect any of us personally. Arguing is fun sometimes too. Having two opinions clash in favor of two different things is nice to watch sometimes too.

You don't need a tutorial to do this. So do us a favor and stop text walls. It's so annoying and takes up too much internet space.

I've always wondered the same thing myself... I guess some people just enjoy these kinds of arguments.

Sometimes I'm also impressed about how long people are arguing. I usually lose my interest after about an hour (in arguing with someone on the internet). That's one reason why I don't like internet arguments. It's too boring. But not just because it takes to long but also because there's always at least one person who's misreading my posts. Then I have to write the same argument again but with a different wording (yes, sometimes I think about quoting myself as an answer but that's too insulting imo).
Besides all that, most opinions aren't really unusual and people stick with it no matter what. It isn't fun then. Hearing the same old arguments all over again is tiring and it's not going to help me with forming my opinion.

There are many reasons why people are arguing for so long. For example: Sometimes (but really just sometimes ) because it's a great discussion, sometimes they just want to be right and sometimes people are simply very emotional about a topic. Or maybe something completely else .

I was thinking the same thing pages of long threads back and forth what really sucks is when they start quoting each other at that point I can't even read them?

I usually just ignore those topics, but I agree. You'd think that people would have something better to do than argue on a forum on an anime streaming site. But hey, whatever makes them happy.
I just hate when they quote everything. Just quote what you're replying to, no need to have half a page filled up just because you won't edit stuff out.

ikr mang i usually get tired after like 2-3 quotes and i dont see why the other party still quotes me
even if i already said "im done with this i aint replying anymore" ;v
when i say that, I am literally tired

People just won't let things go
I remember fighting with an ex and they still bring up old shit. We started fighting around February and they still message me saying how I'm wrong and start quoting me

Because most (NOT ALL) arguments follow this format....

1. Person A forms an opinion on the subject matter.
2. Person B forms an opinion on the subject matter.
3. Person A believes Person B's opinion is wrong.
4. Person B believes Person A's opinion is wrong.
5. Person A lists sources showing their opinion is "right".
6. Person B lists sources showing their opinion is "right.
7. Person A accuses Person B of arguing out their ass.
8. Person B accuses Person A of arguing out their ass.
9. Both continue to argue out their ass until someone proves their opinion is "right".
10. Go back to 1 and the cycle continues, only with a different subject matter.

Argument via assertion. People have to learn that they can't just argue from assertions and stop at that.

A is true, therefore A.

Yeah. Okay. Argue with that.

Some of you can argue for what feels like weeks. You go through like 20 quotes to get a point across.
How do you do it? Do you thrive on argument like I thrive on ice cream? Do you sleep?
When I have a dispute with someone I'll go through like 4 or 5 quotes at the most and then I decide it's pointless, stop caring too much about what the other person thinks of the issue, and move on. I'd rather just plant the ideas in someone's mind and then get outta there before things get too hot. Some of you go all in and really fight it out. I don't read what you people say because I have other things to do but you sure do use a lot of words. That must take some effort. Even religion which I feel very strongly about I won't even argue as much as some of you because I know it's pointless to argue it too much. You can't force that sort of thing. You can only plant ideas and try and make a subtle change. Religion is just an example. Don't make this thread about religion. I will probably be annoyed if you do. There isn't even much point to it. This is a forum on an anime streaming site. Your opinion wont even really affect anything unless you go out and change things. Even when argument is that pointless you'll still argue. Is it fun? Some of you seem to enjoy it. Do you honestly feel that strongly about all of your opinions? We're talkin' paragraphs here! Paragraphs! Link too! Sources! This isn't really to put you down or anything. I'm impressed honestly and heave a respect for certain users who argue like this. Most of you seem smarter than me or at least more knowledgeable. I just don't understand how you can argue for so long.
Why don't you do your thing and educate me on the subject?

There are some rare instances of actual dialog where the other person actually helps me refine my thinking as well as my points, while at the same time clarifying the entire deal including his positions. It's an upward spiral where more knowledge is gained instead of just tearing away and deconstructing every little last bit of everything to win at a tennis match.

It takes genuine knowledge and discipline to do that.

If you didn't take away breaks during that whole thing, I wouldn't know whether to be horrified or impressed.

Says the enormous paragraph.
At least three reasons for me:
1) To promote thinking
2) I think I might convince them
3) Some user accuses me of some untrue garbage claim and I argue to defend my honor.
