I checked to see if there was a topic for this already but didn't find one.

So what do you guys think about the reveal trailer for this new Spider-Man game? Does it bother you it's a PS4 exclusive? What do you think of the developer?

If you haven't seen the trailer it's here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDPWDkdNLEc

So, I don't have a PS4 but this game has made me consider getting one. I have thought about getting one before but this game may be the deciding factor.

I love Spider-Man games and would love to see another well made Spider-Man game, the movement from the trailer, assuming that's in-game footage looks cool, the ability to travel indoors and outdoors seamlessly like that looked nifty and he's got a spiffy suit. I like the white spider logo. Also it sounded like the new Spidey actor was the narrator so maybe this game may have a tie-in with the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

On a side note I think the reason it's exclusive to the PS4 as part of Marvel's deal with Sony to include Spidey to the MCU.

I don't think Marvel's deal with Sony has to do with it being only on PS4. Insomniac Games has always developed games exclusively for Sony, with two exceptions being Sunset Overdrive for Xbox One and Fuse for PS3 and Xbox 360. Their titles include very famous games like Ratchet and Clank and Spyro the Dragon, so I'm absolutely hyped about this game. They clearly know how to do great games, and there is no reason for Spider-Man to be different, especially after the disaster that was The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The only PS4-exclusive that bothers me is Bloodborne.

I need to see actual combat gameplay before I judge. Spider-Man games tend to fall a bit short when it comes to combat. It looks good though. Not a fan of the white in his suit either but I'm sure there'll be skins.

The voice is Yuri Lowenthal. Recognized it right from the first line he said. Could be wrong though. His voice is alright, even if all I hear is Luka from Bayonetta.

Yea that's what I'm worried about, the combat. some of the stances looked similar to the Amazing Spider-Man games, the way he's standing when he hurls the air conditioning unit looked awfully familiar. Same thing with one of the opening Web Swing poses and animation..i'm also pretty worried about the open world. I hope they don't instance the combat segments like in ASM2.

Also thanks for pointing out the voice actor. After re-watching the trailer and then flicking over to the Civil War trailer I realised it wasn't MCU Spidey.

I'm not really good when it turns to a racing game or beat the clock.

Yeah neither am I. I honestly spend most of my time just swinging around and exploring in Spider-Man games.

you can trust the developers of this game. insomniac (as someone else has stated before) has a great track record. i actually watched a handful of footage and interviews on this game and here's what i can tell you.

insomniac's and marvel's studios are 10 minutes away from each other so they are in continual contact throughout the process of making this game. they are sharing ideas with each other and everything is getting looked at. this is NOT part of the universe built on the big screen. this is a standalone story that insomniac is creating. as for the suit, they wanted to make it different and everything about his suit "has a reason" as to why it is the way it is.

as for concerns as to animations looking like something you've seen before, reference insomniacs prior games. you can definitely expect insomniac to have NEW ways for spidey to use his webs. that's all that Resistance and Ratchet and Clank was all about, weapon creativity. insomniac understands the flow of video games and wouldn't "instance" combat segments. beenox was the studio who made the games prior, and looking at their track record, seem to just be alive because they make barely passable Movie Games. i don't think they're very creative and seem pretty uninspired after Shattered Dimensions.

anyway, TL;DR: Spider-Man for PS4 will be worth your while.

Not too worried about the open world as long as it isn't as empty as Ultimate Spider-Man. I honestly haven't played a Spider-Man game since USM.

Been interested in Edge of Time and Shattered Dimensions for a long time now but never actually bought them. I've seen gameplay videos and the combat for both games looks numb and repetitive.

I'm thinking something similar to the Arkham series with more acrobatics and speed would work well on a Spider-Man game.

Don't care about the ASM games because I keep thinking they still have the "movie game" curse, even though they don't.

Yeah USM was pretty empty, it had great swing mechanics though. To me Edge of Time was really lacking in variety, I did enjoy Shattered Dimensions, it was kinda derpy at times, I'm looking at you Spider-Man Noir, but I don't feel like it is worth more than one playthrough. I wouldn't recommend it though. It just feels like a bunch of cheap knock offs bundled together into one game.

I hope it isn't a copy of Arkham, as much as I enjoyed Arkham, ASM2 tried to do that with an Arkham style combat system but the AI were really dumb and ASM2's instanced crime-fighting really breaks up the rhythm that I feel like most Spider-Man games normally have.

I think it would be cool if for this upcoming game they didn't rely so much on web-zipping.

Thanks for the reassurance I don't think I've ever played an Insomniac game.

They did an Arkham-like system in ASM? I did not know that.

Yeah they had a clearly Arkham based combo system for basic combat and Arkham style stealth. The stealth would've been alright but the AI programming and their detection abilities were awful.

Really looking forward to this. If Insomniac can get Spider-Man's movement and combat right I'll think this is going to be really good., Loved Insomniac's Resistance games.
