Speaking of a parent company and VR, does anyone think that with a larger parent company we could get Gear VR mobile theater support for Crunchyroll (like Netflix does)?

Edit: Maybe I should read the thread..

Given that it is initially available only in the US, that doesn't seem likely. The only other language that might be offered for a US-only service would be Spanish.

"Will any content be exclusive to VRV?
Yes. VRV will feature some content that is exclusive to our platform, for example Cartoon Hangover will be available exclusively on VRV. What content is given to VRV exclusively will be determined by each individual content provider. "

Doesn't sound good... If there isn't a multi language support and if CR give some exclusive content (like some anime) to VRV, We will lose content and we wouldn't be able to move our accounts to VRV because of the lack of language support =X.

Hope to have multi language support or CR stay with all content available here.

So does this signal the end of Flash on the Website for Crunchyroll? As I'm sure a new service like this will want to stay far away from Flash if your building a site from the ground up. Maybe even a Windows 10 app for Crunchyroll...

we can dream right?

I don't recognize any of those other services. Was wondering why I would want them when I reached the end
and saw that it's only available in the US.

I think on this side of the ocean almost any service I'd want included would be a competitor (Daisuki, Viewster, Netflix, Funi UK).
Unless you went with something big like teaming up with Spotify so we could get all the OP's and ED's in our playlists.

This seems interesting aside from the

"VRV is a separate company from Crunchyroll, but Crunchyroll will be available as a channel on VRV. The membership fee you pay for Crunchyroll goes to Crunchyroll, that's not changing ~"

So as a previous poster said, if you want VRV you'd basically have to cancel your sub to CR and resub to VRV (which the pricing is yet to be determined) in order to access content without paying 2 subscriptions for CR and whatever other channels they may offer. I wouldn't mind having access to some of the other channels but if it ends up being a double sub just to get ad-free content for both services that doesn't seem very worth it to me. Especially considering I personally haven't heard of these other channels (although I don't search around for many other services when I have CR, etc. already) so I don't even know if it would be worth it.

I may have to try out the free version for a while to see what's going on but this just seems like a repackaging of subscriptions and access to content you may or may not like. A promotion of some sort for those that have been subbing to CR for several years to get premium access for a while to see if it's worth it could go a long way but unless VRV can replace an entire cable package worth or content (depending on pricing) I'm not sure I see a purpose in going premium for both or VRV specifically. I mean services like Sling tv are interesting but not so much that I'd be willing to spring entirely for their services. Most of their channels, even in their smaller package offerings, I'd have no interest in watching and would be paying for things I don't use (unless there is a literal channel by channel pricing plan).

Also, the "exclusive content" is a bit concerning. Does this mean that some shows or other content will be exclusive only to those that are premium members of VRV and not just CR subscription holders? I'm not sure this would be something that would benefit either service really, but I may be reading too much into it.

The information so far is still a little vague though, after more details it might become more clear as to what exactly this "VRV" app / service would be.

I saw the exclusive content YouTube Red got from Rooster Teeth etc, wasn't worth the price of admission IMO, and that was on a well established platform.

as far as i can see on crunchyroll has any profitting component via subscription, and possibly cartoon hangover since its exclusive. the others are free so this only makes it easier to get to. pricing hasn't even been release or even full detail, but i do wonder on why i should subscribe to vrv rather than just crunchyroll.

my wants are for all anime subscription to be under this service but not likely to happen. I can only assume that this will attract bigger stars if it succeeds.

but my real question is, will there be an option of active premium members to get a discount or and addon price for the vrv service outside of crunchyroll?

"While the rest of the U.S. was still making the slow shift away from VHS, we were buying all our anime on DVD" -- On LD, more like. Typically, side A was the dubbed and side B was subbed. Since you couldn't choose the language with VHS, it was almost always sold with (bad) English dub, which was part of why there was so much piracy with the fan subs. LD made it possible to get both; DVD made it practical.

If you get Crunchyroll on a yearly subscription, can it be converted/upgraded into a VRV membership somehow? Or refunded at a pro-rated amount so you could switch over?

Earlier in the thread it said that if you get a subscription through VRV that it would he the same as getting one on here. I have one on VRV now but am unsure how to connect that to Crunchyroll or if it takes time for it to recognize the emails being the same.

They are different services, even though they are supposed to provide the same (CR) content... Your sub there won't work here, and my sub here doesn't work there.
-------------
What's more, the below point from the opening post does not appear to be true, at least not during this initial launch... There's no way in to even browse around and see what the content offering consists of without signing up for a trial subscription.

Will a free version be available?
Yes. Each channel on VRV will have a free ad-supported offering VRV will have both a free subscription where users can view ad-supported content, and a premium offering where all content is ad-free.

Plus, I can't even download the app from Google Playstore, even though I have 5.1 Lolipop (cyanogenmod) installed on my tablet, it doesn't seem to like me.

It has less to do with that and more to do with this.

As far as I can tell there is no way to read manga through VRV. Maybe it is something that will be here after launch like you mentioned though.
