I don't understand how this was compromise.

1) You purchased the property yourself.
2) You've apparently had your collection before you were with her.
3) She wants you to get rid of your physical interests because of her own interest in minimalism.
4) You have to hide your physical interests somewhere in the home/property that YOU purchased because she says so.

Are you even happy?

I couldn't be a guy. I'd pawn her to some other guy.

I think this sums it up nicely.

My anime, manga and Warhammer doesn't want me to have a girlfriend or boyfriend. It sasy they take up space and time, nag a lot. I value my anime, manga and Warhammer enough to respect that.

So should you.

1. yes i am the one who bought the house, but it is our home. in an adult relationship, it would be immature of me to say "my house my rules" when we both live there together. in relationships, and in shared living spaces, it is better to find ways to meet each other halfway on disagreements.

2. no. i dont own any manga at all, as stated in the first post.

3. let's consider the other side of the coin. so, if i force her to disregard her desire for a more minimal living environment, because of my own interest in owning a manga collection on a bookshelf, is that any more fair? btw she doesnt want to me to get rid of my interest, so that's not the issue here.

4. i don't have to, i am choosing to. Not because she says so, but because i care about her enough to consider her preference.

of course i am happy, i wouldn't be in this relationship if i wasn't. there is much more to a happy relationship than just each person being able to preserve their personal interests.

i will repeat since it seems like some people aren't understanding. the issue was about how i could have a manga collection while maintaining a tidy home we both enjoy living in.

i'm here trying to find a solution while keeping both our egos in check. her preferences are not any more or any less important than mine. even if i bought the house, and even if she takes more care of the house-- it is our home.

Just keep them in some sort of room where you can show off your collection, like a mancave or something. Maybe your girl will let you have that...that way, you get some space, and she gets to have her minimalist house.

(though I can relate to wanting minimal space. I try to limit what books I get because if Ilet it go, I'll be a book hoarder.)

Thanks for your response. Our home is being remodeled at the moment, but yes, i will have my own office/den. i dont necessarily need to show off my collection though, i just thought it would be great to have a small collection of my favorite manga. like you, i dont want to become a hoarder either.

If she is already starting to tell you how to live your life as your girlfriend then just think how controlling she will become as your wife.

Your girlfriend will inevitably leave you, for any reason. Might be the next week, next month, next year, after 10 years... But it will happen. But your anime, manga and inanimate objects will always love you. They don't want you to change, grow up, do things you dislike. They don't stain your bath, they don't leave dirty laundry in your bookshelf for gods know what reason, they don't drop food on the carpet and leave it there... *cough cough* ANYWAY... Why, this barely is something needeng a consideration.

Jokes aside tho, because I was totally joking, especially when giving specific examples *COUGH COUGH*, don't trust people who want you to change. Sure, one day, your collectibles take too much space, but the next, is it really worth it to have them stored? How about you sell them? Oh and you spend so much time on the PC. You need to act like an adult.

I'm sure you know where I'm heading there. Some stereotypes are way too true, and if your partner can't accept "Hey, I actually love this thing" it might be a good idea to sit down and think about this.

If you paid for the house and you bought the manga screw what she says. It's your shit, she can deal. If it's organized on a shelf not bothering anyone what the hell is the problem? If she makes it an issue any more than that, she isn't worth the trouble being with.
