So its a "big pool"?
Dunno why they wouldn't have control of it, if they even use it?

Gators can move stealthily and quietly without being detectable. The parents could have been holding the child and the gator still would have snatched him.The news reported that the dad tried to wrestle the gator, that means he was close by, but it is hard to fight off a giant gator.

Holy Shit!

Where is the link to this?

It's all over this morning's news channels.

I didn't see it.

There was a decent amount of coverage here in CA news channels, but then they cut to the press conference for the investigation on the shooting that happened. I wonder if they will be able to find the child's body. Don't alligators and crocodile swallow whatever will fit into their mouths whole?

I wonder if Fox News is going to bring up the fathers criminal background like they did with Gorilla moms husband.

This is really sad... isn't Florida known for gators though? Aren't they most active in the evenings? I won't go down the road of suggesting playing on the banks of a body of water is the reason it happened though, because it's a freak accident. Is there signage or anything though?
I know there is do not swim signs but I'm not sure if they mention alligators as one of the reasons why they have such warnings. I have mixed feelings on this one since Disney also built the lagoon with beach sand banks to make it really inviting looking. It is basically asking people to be lulled into a false sense of security and walk in the shallows and that is exactly what it sounds like the boy was doing when the gator snagged him.

In fact, at Disney, you're not supposed to go swimming in the natural water, A) because of central Florida bacteria warnings, and B ) because they know that scenic water attracts alligators, even on hotel property.
(See golf-course thread about how common it is.)
You CAN wade-only at sandy beaches at Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Beach Club and Caribbean Beach, but not sure about gator signage. It's one of the things you're expected to know when you go to Florida.

And C) any headline that mentions Disney Parks is clickbait, now that we're told the Bi-Closeted Self-Loathing Orlando Shooter often went to Downtown Disney nightclubs.

Looks to me like they made their own little lake and a beach next to the hotels, like, you know, a beach where you go tan and swim and shit, and then poured alligators in it. Put up a sign that says "No swimming allowed." Ask "Why?" "No reason."

They don't have to "pour" them, Disney hotels are in the middle of Florida wilderness apart from the city. Alligators find them.

It's true. Alligators are a type of aquatic mushroom. You leave the water alone for a while, and they sprout out of nothing, grow to 54 feet, and eat cars.

Like, why would you even ask that? At least you know how fucked up it is.

Anyway they found the kid, dead of course but his body was fully intact. So he wasn't eaten after all, which slightly less worse news since the parents now at least have a body they can bury.
