Very controversial no doubt. I'm personally unsure if they should. But it seems many high ranking military officers think so. As well as many in our government.

I don't think anyone should have to register for the draft, whether it's man or woman. Of course either way even if there was a draft again I'm too old for that so it's all up to others at this point.

Didn't read, but with the question, I'd think so, since it would equate to equality...

In principle, yes. In practice, it's not really currently strategically necessary for the US military to draft anyone. It's probably better if registration were just done away with. But if not, then yes. Women should register, too.

IshokuOseru and BlueOni are right. With all the people voluntarily signing up for the military the draft is now just a relic of the past. It's obsolete. I not only don't think women should be forced to register for the draft but also don't think men should either. Let those who want to fight fight, let those who don't don't.

Yeah why not

I've never been against this

The draft is absolutely still needed. You will never have enough volunteers for a major war.

Women should sign up but should also have to pass the same physical tests needed to go into active duty.

Yep. Not to mention the psychological consequences of humans fighting. Not everyone can handle that sort of stuff. I know I couldn't - I'd completely shut down. I can't even kill bugs. We're not living in a society today that's like the society we used to be - we have so many advances in the mental health field that I don't think we're justified any longer by forcing people to fight.

No, I'd rather have the men die, instead.

I don't think anyone should be forced to register for the draft, so no.
There are plenty people of either sex willing to voluntarily join army, armies which are often already way bigger than they should to be, so draft is just not needed, with possible exception of very few countries it is just plain useless "abuse" of citizens.

We don't have an active draft, registration is only a prerequisite for governmental services, and when the Afghanistan war dragged on, they were still recirculating existing National Guard and Iraq War vets for their third and fourth tours of duty.

My stance is, "Like it's actually going to mean anything..."

I'm in the same boat, although I can kill bugs (due to seeing their possible effects on people due to disease or pure mischief on their part). I don't think I could ever take an animal or human life except possibly protecting someone personally. I could never do it for myself.

If people are being registered for a draft, then both men and women should register.

That said, I don't think that a draft is a good idea.
