It has been recently come to light that many Russian athletes have cheated their way through some recent summer games going as far back as 2008, and that during the Sochi games, Russians made a hidden hole between lab and storage rooms, and collaborated with an insider lab analyst to cheat.

I think that of course a blanket ban on Russia competing in Brasil makes sense, but further more, I think with the nature of the cheating, Russia should be banned from hosting an Olympic event for at least 25 Olympic cycles. They can still compete, but they will not be allowed to host an event in their own country for at least 100 years.

100 years may be enough time for all the corruption to disappear. Maybe.

A couple of articles for reference

How about we get rid of the silly rules and make it a free-for-all? Seems much more fun that way.

It's only cheating if you get caught. A lot more than Russia cheat, they are just better at it. The whole professional athletics community is a farce and they all know it.

Ban them all. Make the Olympics like it used to be. They are only allowed to eat what the Greeks ate, must complete naked, and only who won matters, not their times.

Let the steroid users allow to compete but have all the world know about it.
If they still win, let the audience on attendance just do a lame ass clap and then quietly say "steroids" over and over.

No one would accept a shallow victory especially when all the cameras are in your face.

I'm getting tired of hearing about all the doping or enhancements taken in sports. Its getting kind of ridiculous, what will it eventually get to be he drank red gatorade during the game, everyone else had purple, that gave him the advantage to win.

I think it really just needs to be ignored, everyone has equal access to these enhancers so if you take them or don't just becomes a personal training choice just like what you eat before or after your workout sessions, or where you train at.

Judging by the state of the Rio, their punishment should be forcing them to compete in Brasil.

Yeah, between Zika and the civil unrest, banning may save athletes the trouble of declining to go.

I'll accept those conditions if Britain sends 10,000 of the best football hooligans to attend every sporting event the Russians should compete in. Road flares are a must, if they don't have any, then they will be provided at Russia's expense. It can be part of the dues they will owe for being caught cheating.

Will this stop them cheating you'd hope so realistically they will probably just try to come up with more creative ways to cheat.
