Alright, folks, help me out here.

Do I need to read Negima in order to read UQ Holder manga or watch the anime? I am aware it is a spin-off of Negima, so I am curious.

Thanks!

I doubt the anime will cover too much of the Negi territory, though the manga does seem to get super Negi later on. It's not a spin-off so much as it is a sequel.

Though! I really do recommend reading Negima regardless. The first arc is decent but nothing special, but the 2nd main arc, the School Festival Arc is REALLY good. It starts at around volume 7 or 8 I think. Every arc afterwards is really good too.

I enjoyed Negima much more than I enjoy UQ Holder.

I see.

Unfortunately, I haven't heard enough good things about Negima that would make be binge on the 300+ chapter series, plus the 10 volume manga of UQ Holder.

It's a lot of content to get into for sure, but I'm only willing to get into it if it's amazing and not just decent or good. This is due to lack of time..

Negima is one of my favorite mangas, aside from the first arc (which is what the Negima anime covers).

I'd rank it up there with Hunter x Hunter personally.

Cool! Well, thanks for the recommendation. If I ever get the time, I'll go ahead and look into it and see what's up!

I had a feeling this would happen. Ken Akamatsu has some nice artwork. It will be interesting to see what studio does this as Xebec has done his other two works in Love Hina and Negima, while Shaft did the Negima reboot. Seeing that this show happens many years after the events of Negima that it's something that I'll certainly like. Hopefully, this show gets a faithful adaptation unlike what Negima for the most part got.

Really hope CR can get the OAD and the TV series. We've gotten burned on the OADs for Negima being licensed once already and it's a shame, since they seemed pretty good (especially the Yue side arc one).

Also, I hope the TV series doesn't get the typical Akamatsu curse where it never covers much of the manga and/or goes off in a different direction...

It will be interesting to see how this is handled. From the look of things, Xebec is the studio that's most likely going to adapt this show as they have done all of Ken Akamatsu's other works, and not to mention it happens years after the events of Negima.
