Mainly for lack of good music (a lot of anime still have talentless or mediocre music composers) but also endless fillers (like Naruto and I dropped this anime over 2 years ago), stock characters, asspulls, PIS as well as the quality, condition or state of being cheesy (like the Batman anime known as Gotham Knight and seriously Japan, leave the superhero stories to western writers).

If an anime does not have at least one of the following then I will drop it fairly quickly.

1. An interesting story premise.
2. An interesting perhaps unusual or evocative character or characters - does not necessarily have to be the protagonist - but if not then they do require significant screen time.
3. Either pleasant or distinctive visuals.

t depends for me the reason why I drop a anime but here are a few anim's I dropped and the reason I dropped them:

Haven't you heard? I'm Sakamoto: Omg god the MC was annoying. I honestly wanted to go into the tv and help the guys trying to mess up Sakamoto.The show was so annoying it was the first time I wanted to punch my tv. The Sakamoto was annoying, the rest of th cast was annoying I just couldn't watch anymore, due to t causing rage issues

Aokana: This show was just boring. Plain an simple. I gave it a chance but it never got better :(

Dragon Ball series: The fights take toolong and are drawn out too much. The bggest sample is the freeza goku fight.

Lance 'n' Masques: The main character was too weak, and pathetic.

There are others but with them usually don't have time

If I don't care what happens in the next episode or if I actively dislike the show I just drop it.

I have only rarely dropped something without watching at least a few episodes. The exceptions being when I find that I somehow ended up watching something that falls into a category that I already know is "not for me". I try to research stuff before watching the first episode to avoid that happening... after watching over 300 anime series I have a pretty good feel for what works for me and what doesn't.

That said, I still drop about 1/3 of all the shows I try.

I'll go with those who said;
boredom
too much fan service
ecchi
dislike of characters or the story

I'll add;

too long a series (you know the big three)
extremly confusing story presention
too much focus on lollis and shota

Some I won't even start if I can see the aforementioned things in the poster or preview clip.

I think it's it's too long and slow going... I feel like it would be better if I was there when it was airing to watch a new episode each week or what not.

But the last anime I tried and dropped was super lovers.. It seemed so popular with people I followed and what not but.. I guess I have morals so some shows don't fit well with me. :/

I drop a show if I don't find myself liking the characters. The show could have the most mundane premise, slow/lightning fast pace, predictable direction and such, but all those are secondary to the characters. Of recent series, such as Big Order, Bungou Stray Dogs and Kiznaiver, the premise seemed like it could be interesting but I didn't care for any of the characters. Well admittedly, I did like Ranpo from Stray Dogs but that's more due to Hiroshi Kamiya rather than the character.

Though I'm not opposed to revisiting a dropped series if there's some good buzz surrounding it.

When an anime gets overly preachy. Parasyte for example was rife with that late 80s/early 90s environmentalist panic message. The rest of the anime was so good that I ignored it, but if it weren't as good as it was I probably wouldn't have bothered to finish it.

A lot of anime is hung up on the Japanese concept of overt humility, so a lot of them will be filled with plot elements and messages about how humans are so weak and humans should learn their place, etc. It's a real show killer for me to constantly be insulted and told how useless I am because human. Usually this is paired with some intensely broken supernatural antagonists just to exaggerate the gulf - No Game, No Life was a glaring example of this sort of narrative.

As an extension of that, the spineless and/or over-apologetic protagonist. I really don't want to see 24+ episodes of the main character being a doormat. Stop whining, stop standing there paralyzed whenever a major plot event happens while you run through an internal monologue about exactly how useless you are, and actually do something. (see, the original .hack)

When the drama is too heavy, the plot has an awkward shape, or when it's so bad that I need to drop the anime on my foot to diminish the pain.

I drop if I find it boring, bland or not my genre choices. One big example was Attack on Titan which hit so many NOPE buttons that I didn't even finish episode 1. I really don't mind if others loved it because it is a Baskin-Robbins' world. Besides as all these contests/polls show..I got bad taste in anime.

I'm right there with you man. The stuff I eat up, other people detest. The stuff I loathe (looking at you ONE) other people gobble like it's going extinct.
