A glaring issue in your theory that I see, and this is before any power grabs, wars, or violence, is the fact that all the power is left up to the one congress. First of all, at least in the US, people can't get a legislative body to work together. It literally shut down government for something like a week a couple year or two ago. Secondly, there is no real central voice in this kind of political structure. In every government thus far there has been some sort of executive power that can at least attempt to point everyone in a coherent direction, whether or not it actually works, and without that all I would foresee is a bunch of pointless argument about what to argue about.

Sounds like a nightmare. The "wake up in a cold sweat thankful you could escape the horrors of your dream" type of nightmare.

World gov could work without corruption. I imagine in the future at some point the world will operate under one set of laws. If it gets corrupted we'll need the will of the d.
-Maniac D. Killah

It seems people are quick to say never but I think you're all wrong. People are talking about ISIS and countries problems. If a world government existed where people were given rights I don't believe ISIS would be in existence today. I'm not saying radicalism wouldn't exist just not ISIS. The whole world deserves human rights and so many people's rights are being infringed upon. I imagine a world set of laws would work better globally then currently. It could also be much worse if world laws reflected that of countries like Venezuela and Saudi Arabia or Iraq. It is definitely not impossible as so many here are saying. If WWII was different we may have a world government right now, it is surely possible. I guess it depends who's in charge.

World government is more likely to come about through gradual conglomeration like the EU. Not directly in control of budgeting or rule of any given country, but acting in the interests of the collective. And the EU demonstrates the strain of even that modest effort.

One world Government would be just as corrupt as the ones in place now if not worse.
To give one entity or body of people that kind of power would just bring trouble down the line.

I think it would probably end up as an Orwellian super-state (too much power, no countries left to compete with it). The only way some sort of one world government could work would be if it were drastically decentralized, the current developing nations standard of living would need to be comparable, and radical religious extremists would need to no longer be a problem. If we were to move to a world government it should only be done with the consent of everyone involved, each nation should have to vote for it and if one doesn't they shouldn't be forced to join.

Sounds like Communism.

Which is to say it works fine until human beings are involved.
