I own several, mostly leather and my army issue one.. Most days I don't wear them simply because there is no call for that heavy of coat. These things were originally invented to withstand the rigours of trench warfare hence the name. Most of us don't do trench warfare on a daily basis so why would we wear them.

Because they look cool?

Clothing doesn't have to be just practical if it looks cool it's worth wearing even if not necessary

The only time I've put aesthetics over practically is the times I've cosplayed . Other then that there are the few times more formal wear was required. Otherwise I am not deliberating making myself uncomfortable simply to please my own vanity. And most people seem to agree with that opinion it seems.

Aesthetics are important with clothing though imo (which is why I plan to make my own clothing)

Most normal clothing is far too plain for my tastes comfort is important aesthetic wise and comfort wise.

I have several thin ones, I live in Florida. This poses a problem with wearing them for about 3/4 of the year. :P

I agree otherwise

You look edgy if you wear one casually. Simple as that.

Why though it looks different and doesn't fit into the norm and blandness that most clothing does.

What clothing sticks out that isn't called edgy though

Trench coats are intriguing piece of clothing, but the use is limited, because you need pretty harsh weather for a coat to feel "right". Unles you want to be "that sweaty dude".
