They're not very practical and unless worn over a suit in a professional fashion they just come across as trying too hard to be cool/edgy. You also need some height and the right frame to really pull one off well.

And that's before you get into the stigma attached to them.

I was watching Terminator when I saw this post. Anyway, point was hiding weapons in the movies.

I'd buy one if I could find any stores that sold them in my town. I don't care about the weather anyway, I always wear a thick hoodie. I think trenchcoats look cool, to be honest.

does clothing NEED to be practical?

Also the stigma only really exists in America as i have never heard of it where i live :P

not sure why people see it as edgy it looks cool.

Any clothing that is cool or stands out people call edgy ...not sure why but its stupid as fk in my opinion for all good clothing to be "Edgy"

Im getting one myself and i'm 7'10 and a bit overweight not that it matters xD if there are better looking coats i would love to be told because most stuff looks plain and only goes for practicality which imo is STUPID

You cosplay? Cosplay as? Like your older profile pic but this is cool as well.

All sorts of people, Sophie wanted to be a fashion designer and like to use me as her guinea pig ya know. Of course being an anime fan she occasionally made cosplay outfits for the both of us. I've been Dante from Devil May Cry, Spike from Cowboy Bebop, Edward from Full Metal Alchemist, I was even Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon once. It helps I guess that I have always been tall and fairly well built and youthful looking so fitting into the clothing and looks of an anime character has never been all that hard for me. Kinda got annoyed with the wigs though.

so if you don't matter if people call certian clothing "edgy", and you ignore the stigma that comes with a trench coat.
What is the point of asking the question

"Why don't people wear trench coats?"

It's generally stigmatized in the US as bad and even some anime do that, too. Also, it's hot as hell in Texas so why would I wear that?
