Say in the near future, there is a technology where when people die, they can clone their human body and then transfer their memory into this new body...would this be immortality?...or would this be something else. When you are cloned and your memory is inputed into this new body, will you still be you or will this new body be someone else who just look like you, have the same genetic material as you, same thoughts as you, and same memory as you? Would your old self die with you the day you die and this new being is just something new created through science?

Would you want to be cloned and technically live for ever knowing that you may have in actuality died a long time ago and what you are now is just an imitation?

Edit:
Before you state your opinion...picture this: You are driving in a car when suddenly you crashed into another one...the next thing you know is that you are alive and well and six months have passed...it turned out that you have died from the crash and that your body is new with memories from your old self...it seem as if you were asleep this whole entire time and that you just woke up...

Is this immortality or wrong?

After reading some posts to pg. 4, I came up with a partial solution:
The answer to our questions may come from this question:
If there is such thing as a soul, where does it exist, the human body or the mind(memories, personality, etc.)?

science cant transfer your soul no matter how far we go with technology so it will only be a cheap copy, you will not be there, your memories will

I don't see why people would want to keep living in such a messed up place..And that just sounds creepy

This sounds like the plot of a movie, wait it is. Anyway this is too fascinating, and fantasy-like to even be possible. But, if, only 'if' it was possible in a thousand of years, or something like that. I wouldn't like to experience it. You would die anyway, the clone would be just another being that think 'is you,' the former you.

That is scary. because the real you would be dead, and the one alive right now is merely a copy of you....i don't think i want that to happen >_< because I wouldn't be here, but instead I would. >_<

but hey, if this was made real, and people want to do that, sure, why not? Long as its not for things that will harm other humans; sure, go ahead.

but I wouldn't call it immortality, I simply see this as "cloning but with memories"

Um...the idea I guess is nice, but if people were immortal, and reproduced immortal babies, then the world would get even more overpopulated very fast.

I would like it if our immortality is "imperfect" you know, we can live forever as long as we dont get killed... as for the sciency part of this forum well...i guess its a bad thing, i mean, its a disruption of the law of nature ryt??

no, it'd be like the prestige, because your sentinence is gone, its just your memories. It'd be like making a clone of someone at birth, and then just imputting memories later on. Both people could exist, but if one died, they couldn't just subsume/become the other one.

The version of me that died could care less 'cause he'd be dead.

The new version would feel like nothing new had happened 'cause the death had nothing to do with him.

And life would go on.

I probably wouldn't want a copy cause the original is the best. This reminds me of Tsubasa resvoir chronicles for some reasons...

immortality is too far from reality.. maybe its just a clone, but clones do die.. (i think)
