Hello everyone!

The Anime "Gosick" was one which was suggested to me few months back and I will admit from the plot synopsis I read it sounded fairly decent.

When I went to check into where I could watch it though I noticed something interesting. During its initial airing Crunchyroll was Simulcasting it and then once that was finished the series just kinda vanished from the website. A company had obtained the rights to it to publish the DVDs but then they ended up dropping it with out any reason being stated and since then no one has picked it up and it is no longer available on Crunchyroll, or anywhere really.

So, what exactly happened with this series, why was it dropped by companies and never picked up again? My experience so far with Crunchyroll has been once they had the license they normally end up having it for quite a number of years for streaming.

Was there some legal troubles somewhere?

Licenses expire, and don't get renewed sometimes, that's the nature of Streaming

For Example when CR lost Anohana, due to Aniplex not renewing NIS America's license, they renegotiated with Aniplex to bring the show back to CR.

I actually think the licensing for Gosick was with Bandai, and when they pulled out of the NA market, CR's licenses of Gosick, Haruhi and Lucky Star got cancelled. Funimation immediately picked up Haruhi and Lucky Star, while Gosick is sitting unlicensed

That's a shame. Gosick is a really great show. Sadly underrated.

So it's in show limbo like season three of Dog Days! And food wars 2, since CR has not confirmed it for streaming and it starts in Japan July 2!

This and the fact that Nichijou isn't licensed is a tragedy

You say that like it's proximity means CR should have announced it by now... they regularly don't announce shows until a couple of days before or even the same day a series starts, we still have over a week yet so be patient.

As regards Gosick I think the license ran out near the end of 2014 (might be mistaken), but as others said, it's a shame because it's a brilliant series.

That was one of Bandai's last licenses when they went under, which, unfortunately, went into limbo with them on the home video front. CR did maintain streaming rights until a couple years ago or so. I watched it on CR then right before they lost the streaming license. Same happened with Nichijou.

I'm posting this a couple of months late, but Funimation has acquired Gosick for physical distribution. And they're producing a new English dub.

They don't have streaming rights, though. Here's the show page, with no episodes: https://www.funimation.com/shows/gosick/

And here's the original (now locked) thread from when the show was airing:

I haven't seen the show yet, but Resuscitated Hope is my favorite ED of all time. I discovered it last year and I've been listening to it almost every day lately.

Gosick is now streaming on funimAtion.
I'm not thrilled with the dub. It just doesn't have the same feel that the sub did. For those who were lucky enough to see it on crunchy roll, you know what I mean.

The new cast doesn't capture the same emotion of the characters. I hope it gets better, since it gets darker from here.

Somethings are better off left alone. I would have been happy just to get a sub only release.

Just the first two episodes for now. I expect the remainder will follow after the home video release a month from now.

For now, the subtitled Japanese audio version will exist on home video. Who knows when Funimation will get around to bringing subtitled versions of their newer non-simulcast acquisitions to CR.
