Most of the anime I've watched has male protagonists, but females are great too as long as there's no fanservice

I want a strong female, not a weak, annoying one.

I don't really care, but overall I'd say I'd rather have a male protagonist than a female one, because "female protagonist animes" tend to be more shoujo like and that's not really something I watch. :)
But if it's a completely normal anime I really don't mind

I literally do not care at all, when it comes to viewing. Though, as a writer, I do seem to just have an affinity for creating female characters. Even when I make rather large, ensemble casts, the ladies tend to outnumber the dudes by a decent margin. Unless the gender is actually important to the story (which it isn't, 90% of the time) or plot (a bit more lenient, but still unimportant more often than not) it doesn't really matter, anyway. Per my viewing habits, I'm sort of a chameleon, so the genre doesn't even really matter to me - Shoujo, Shounen, whatever. So even that doesn't really affect me. All in all I just say "I'll care about their sex organs if you give me reason to, but first you concern yourself with writing a good character. Character, as a word, is gender neutral."

This answer. I like this answer.

Honestly it doesn't matter to me. Yeah the anime I tend to like more have female protagonists (Madoka, KLK, any SoL), but not because of the gender of the character, but for their actual character. I don't need a female protagonist I can relate to in order to like them, as long as I like a character's personality, I'm fine with either male or female.
