I cross realism and pessimism to be a realistic pessimist. I feel the same as the previous guy. High hopes are a terrible idea.

i would say a realist no sense in denying reality as is and outright lying about something is one of the biggest insults can do in my opinion even if its to avoid hurt feelings.i would also probably fall into being a pessimist as well
