Pessimist / Realist

Isn't this the exact same thing?

No. No, it isn't.

how is it not?

A pessimist sees the glass as half empty. A realist sees that he's going to probably have to buy another round.

Why not both see the glass as half empty and think your going to have to buy another roung ?

Pessimists just don't seem to think that way. It's always pissing and moaning about how their glass is half empty. How nothing is ever going to get better. It's just a straight line graph from their glass being half empty to total atomic annihilation.

Realists just know that you don't want to face total atomic annihilation thirsty, because at that point it's not going to matter and you'll want to have no regrets.

Realist see things are neither the worse case scenario (pessimist) nor the best case scenario(optimist), they view things on what is most likely to occur.

Myself, I'm an idealist. I would view the difference between that and optimist in such a way:

Look at a certain situation, pessimist looks at the worst case, optimist looks at the best case for a give problem. An idealist thinks that they are framing the problem wrong and rewrites the boundaries to said solution to reach a better answer.

Formalist.

I'm the guy that has to point out that if a glass is half full or half empty, it's necessarily the other too.
