name some bands that might have had a great first album, but was unable to match its popularity or acclaim with later albums. For me, two bands that fit that category are the strokes and franz Ferdinand. Also, I'd count in Interpol as well. That isn't to say their later albums were bad, but just that their first album was so good that other albums just couldn't match its success.

Is there any better example than Guns and Roses? They get worse and worse with every album it seems

I honestly think it depends solely on one's music taste and of course the artist. Like for me even though I love Silverchair's first album Frogstomp. Their music, in my opinion, went down hill and you can tell that with their second album Freakshow which only has a few good songs on it. After that they only have one or two good songs per album until their hiatus in 2011.

guns n roses honestly just seemed overrated to me. I mean slash is cool, but he isn't even one of may favorite guitarists. The rest of the band aren't even that noteworthy except for axl rose and that just seems to be more because of his douche behavior. Guns n roses were kind of like a gimmick band. Slash was way better when he was with velvet revolver and writing solo material
