With AX less than a week away I'm finalizing my plans for four hectic days and looking forward to what they'll bring. Except that while I am excited, I can't help but wonder if I still want to keep going. I've been going to AX since 2012 and I do love it but it has changed a lot. It's gotten more expensive just to go and of course money for merchandise, food, and transportation all add up. If anime was my main thing in my life I'd keep going forever but I think next year will be my last year going.

Do you think conventions worth the money? Would rather do something else?

No clue. I would have to attend one first, which I do want to do someday.

I'd like to go for the experience at least a few times. I've never been, but Connecticon is coming up soon and I'd like to attempt to go.

Depends, do you have money to blow, do you have fun every time you go? Last time I went to the con in my city it was kinda slow but the friends I had there did some shit differently last year. We went deep downtown to some places to find some good food, chilled, hung out before we went to the "rave" the con had, it was fun. There's a lot of things you can go to the convention for that isn't limited to only anime, you could go there to find some friends and what not as well. I also manage to run into people I haven't seen for like 3yrs, so I truly enjoy going to this con. Though I've only been going for about 3yrs now I believe and it happens twice a year.

Anyways, as long as you have the spare cash, and you enjoy going there every time it comes around, I'd say it's worth the money.

Depends on the crowd and the guests/panels to me. There's really not too much to cons these days when it comes to merch or information you can't just get online anyway, so it really comes down to whether you enjoy the atmosphere or there's unique people/stuff you want to see there.

They have gotten a little craptacular as of late, but it is nice to go and buy that figure you have been pinning for at a discounted rate and not have to pay shipping. Every now and then I find some rare items that are not supposed to be there like Ancient Magus Bride key chains that clearly say on the box "do not sell outside of Japan".

But I agree that the prices getting in are outrages. Come on 60$ for one day!!??? They are out of their minds.

I only go to cons if I'm working a booth or something at them. I don't really find entertainment in them otherwise. I feel like prices of badges are too steep at the 'good' cons, and the events and attractions of them aren't really my cup of tea. Panel rooms tend to be full of hyper teenagers, the halls are full of screaming and loud people, the dealer's hall tends to be overpriced besides a few booths (which you can easily find their websites online and just order through them instead anyways), and it's just overall not worth it to me. The last time I went to a con without working a booth was ACen a bunch of years ago, and I only ended up going back and forth between the dealer's hall and the hotel room all weekend. When I really thought about it I was paying a lot of money for something I wasn't really enjoying. The next year I worked one of the DH booths though and I had a lot of fun, but I mostly just had fun working. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't keep going.

Guests at cons tend to leave something to be desired too... most conventions get the english VA's, but those guys are a dime a dozen. Most of them will go to any con no matter how tiny if it means they'll get their 15 minutes of spotlight. And a lot of cons don't bring many Japanese guests to the table anymore so it's just like... what's even the point.

I think they are worth it if you have fun and enjoy yourself. If not, then obviously it wasn't meant for you. I enjoy going to NDK. This year they are celebrating their 20th Anniversary. I like to cosplay and meet other Anime fans as well. But I go out of my way to have fun and not wait for it to be dropped on my lap. I save money for the purpose to attend the Anime convention and to purchase items at the dealer's room, at the art show, and at the auction.

I would go, if they mailed out passes and not made you wait in line in the hot sun, just for them to see if they can fry an egg on your head.

Used to go to Coachella since it started in 99 & San Diego Comic-Con since 01 for years, now they're both stupidly over crowded and cost way too much. Plus even if I wanted to go back again, tickets sell out so fast that trying to get one is a crap shoot. Might check out AX if I'm not busy working, I went once a few years ago for 1 day & managed to get a vn limited edition boxed set for Steins;Gate.

I personally think so because they provide me with an escape from my daily life.

If you enjoy being around/wanting to meet other people, particularly otakus then go for it. I think everyone should go to at least one once in their life to get to see if they like it.

Went to my first con last month and it was really nice. Great place to find some anime-related goods.
