it depends on the convention and why you attend conventions. Smaller, more dedicated conventions are usually a lot better.

In any case, Anime Expo is not worth it. Yeah, there's a lot of guests...but you'll be getting up at 4 am to stand in an autograph line if you even want a chance at an autograph from a popular guest.

Actually this kind of behavior is highly looked down on at Cons.

Not necessarily. The local con I go to has a speed dating thing for adults the first night for that purpose. Where else are you going to meet a bunch of like minded nerds?

Yeah standing in lines for hours is one bad part of the bigger ones.. (to get in or to meet guest or in the case of the one that i go to, getting into the cosplay awards..)

In the case of AX's autographs, you have to line up by 4 am if you even want a chance at an autograph from a popular guest. But, at AX, you can only grab one autograph ticket per turn in line. If you want any more autograph tickets, you have to head to the back of (by 8 am) couple thousand people line. Usually, the most you'll be able to get is 2-3 autograph tickets per day, assume that your second and third choice are not popular at all. What takes so long with the line is, by the time the halfway point of the line is reached, most of the guests have already filled their autograph session, so then people are sometimes having to make quick selections on the spot. My advice is that, if you are going for autographs is that you 1) Get to the line by 4 am and 2) Have a second or third guest in mind in the event that your selection has been taken. The people at the head of the line last year started lining up at 11pm. Keep in mind that many of these people act as placeholders, so while you might be 30th in line at 4 am, by 8 am, you'll be around 60th. And no, having a Premier Badge will not help you out here.

With AX, another thing you might have to take into account are hotel prices and parking. AX hotel prices range from $230/night close to the con, to $170/night further away (so you'll need to sometimes wait an hour for a bus at popular times). Hotel parking fees are about $40 a night and when I last stopped paying to park in the LACC, it was $20/day (no overnight parking). Years ago, when I first started going to AX, I'd stay at a hotel in City of Industry and then commute in after a delicious IHOP breakfast, but now...if you really want autographs, you have to be centrally located in the area.

I've been to an Anisong concert before and they're ok-ish. The problem is that, with so many artists, you only get to see them perform 2 songs. If you like all the artists, that's fine, but if you're only going for one or two, you're going to be let down.
