Preview looks nice. So far, so good I'd say.

This is one of the best (and one of the most beautiful too) japanese novels I've read, and if they respect the work (director is a fan of the novels and author is also in charge, so that should be okay on that point), this may be the best anime you'll get in spring despite all the hype around many sequels and new adaptations. So you couldn't be more wrong. Btw, "Satougashi no dangan wa uchinukenai : a lolypop or a bullet" is another very nice title I read. It's translated fully and quite short, if you want to check yourself.
Better forget about that kind of bias :3.

Forgive me, but it synopsis makes it sounds exactly like that the story of Masou Gakuen HxH and Infinite Stratos and Blade Dance of the Elementals And Absolute Duo AND Unlimited Fafnir.

As for long names, Noucome, Netoge, Yuushiba, DanMachi (Fairly well received, while basically has a similar plot), Shimoneta, OniAi, etc etc...

forgive my ignorance, but you can clearly see where I am coming from. The biased is well deserved, so I'll be damn if I do not explain my skepticism, virtually no different than that towards The Emoji Movie. Of course no one is saying they cannot be decent or great, but the plot has been described in a sense like a harem situation, among other things, with the excuse of the situation being one many among many girls and action scenes.

Here is the synopsis MAL gives for the finished novel (With a sequel.)

MAL's SynopsisFive hundred years have passed since the humans went extinct at the hands of the fearsome and mysterious 'Beasts.' The surviving races now make their homes up on floating islands in the sky, out of reach of all but the most mobile of Beasts. However, this new safe haven Regul Aire has a dark secret behind it.

Only a small group of young girls, the Leprechauns, can wield the ancient weapons needed to fend off invasions from these creatures. Into the girls' unstable and fleeting lives, where a call to certain death could come at any moment, enters an unlikely character: a young man who lost everything in his final battle five hundred years ago, the last living human awakened from a long, icy slumber.

Unable to fight any longer, Willem becomes the father that the girls never had, caring for and nurturing them even as he struggles to come to terms with his new life, in which he feels the pain of helplessly waiting for his loved ones to return home from battle that his 'Daughter' once felt for him so long ago. Together, through their everyday interactions in the 'orphanage,' Willem and the girls gradually come to understand what family means and what is truly worth protecting.

Which sounds much better than what Stark has copied from the post....

Stark700's SynopsisFive hundred years have passed since humanity went extinct at the hands of the fearsome "Beasts." Even up in the sky, where the surviving races dwell on floating islands, these monstrosities constantly threaten to bring death and destruction. Only a small group of young girls, the Leprechauns, can wield the ancient weapons needed to defeat these creatures. Into the girls' unstable and fleeting lives, where a call to certain death could come at any moment, enters an unlikely character: a young man who lost everything five hundred years ago, the last living human awakened from a long, icy slumber.

The fact that it is an anime about child soldiers as apparently as child caring as an earnestly consider topic makes it an anomaly, nothing short of a miracle.

This image seems promising, however.

The animated PV intrigued me so I guess I'll at least give this the 3 episode rule.

I agree that the synopsis has been a problem for a lot of peoples, not that it's wrong, but because it doesn't take in account the "bias" that peoples will have when reading it : IE, that many peoples are used to see battle fantasy harem getting adapted and will confuse the two, despite that synopsis not actually saying anything of the sort.
I posted on various place a complement to get rid of the confusion, as follow :

"no ecchi, no harem, pretty much no action. (Science) fantasy, romance, drama. Most scene happens in an "orphanage".
It's a sad but beautiful tale, about the last survivor of humanity, who try to teach to a young other race the importance of their own lives, as well as to teach to others races around that this race has a right to live and be happy, and not just being considered weapon/furniture. Trying to be accepted by them, to give them the will to live, and to teach them how to survive as long as possible their ephemeral lifespan without throwing away their lives. And also waiting for them to return from combat, with the anguish of never seeing some of those young faces ever again.
It's also a strange tale about the end of the "human" world, and the truth behind it."

So as you see, this is actually almost the exact opposite of fantasy battle harem peoples confused it with.

I'd argue the synopsis Stark700 posted, probably copied from another news source that is possibly not MAL (Seeing as he works there or something) is a misdirection. The resulting bias one towards the title and synopsis has may have been intentional, a subversion, like the author was thinking: What if I made a great story that seems like the plot for "harem without romance" trash, but play it straight as it is stated in the synopsis? Which honestly is something that is rarely done.

As long as it does not go the direction of Oreimo and Papa No Iukoto.

I need actual familiar love, like Space Brothers.

After reading the first few sentences of the synopsis I wasn't interested in this series . The title and the first picture I saw of it didn't change my opinion either. I thought this will be another supernatural harem full of panties, boobs and awkward romance but I have to say the preview and the new visual look interesting.
Not that I expect too much from it but it looks good enough to me to watch at least a few episodes.

Edit:

Thanks for the clarification . That summary sounds a lot better than the official one.

I don't think it was intentional. It's one of those titles where it's easy to be misunderstood if the synopsis isn't long and carefully made enough, as simple as that.
This won't go that way, that's not the type of story. The eldest leprechaun (the blue haired) wants the MC to look at her as a woman rather than a daughter, but all other leprechauns sees him as either an elder brother (third oldest), a friend (second oldest) or a father figure (almost everyone else).

@srlan23 you're welcome. Well it's like youjo senki this season, it's misunderstood quite a bit with only the synopsis, apparently.

Probably even more than youjo senki, in fact~

Was I the only one who didn't get the impression that it would be a generic ecchi harem from the synopsis and the images?

The images kind of make it obvious.

I mean, surely, there is no anime where a grown man has a harem of small and adorable underage girls as his harem, right?

Well, right?

I think I remember reading the synopsis (the one Zefyris- posted) on MAL or maybe another website that shows the Spring lineup before seeing the images a while back and the first thing that stood out to me was that this would be about a guy waking up centuries after humanity went extinct and of course the "leprechaun" on the cover that doesn't really look like a leprechaun... Then I saw the tags which were Sci-Fi, Drama, Romance, and Fantasy with no sign anywhere of comedy or harem and so everything together made me figure it would be a more mature and somewhat dark romance story instead of the fanservice LN we get 50 times a year. Then that image with the blue haired girl and those kids came out and I assume she's going to be a motherly figure and/or the main love interest. The more I saw, the less it made me think it would be what apparently most people think it's going to be.

Put like that it feels weird to have some of those characters supposed to be of very different size being exactly of the same size lol x).
I'm surprised about how old some of the characters are supposed to be. Was remembering them quite older than that.
