I don't mean the type who always ends up on top easily, I mean the type who is constantly the underdog and has to use their wits to make up for being at a disadvantage. Not limited to anime or TV, anything from video games to movies to books and plain old folk stories or even history. Fictional characters are great too, but I'm specifically looking for fictional/non-fictional human characters like James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, MacGyver, etc. Or just name your favorites.

Well, not so much "underdog" as limited by two: Hego Damask and Palpatine, from Darth Plagueis

That's quite a story. Bio looks interesting, I'll look up a more extensive background on him. Thanks!

That book scared me when I was a kid. Seeing such a massive book traumatized me to the point where I avoided reading much of my life. I might actually give it a try though, I never heard the full story.

It's an epic, so it's like a poem that's meant to be recounted verbally to audiences. It flows pretty well, and some sections are actually quite short. The story is really good, you should give it a try.

Nice choice my first thought when i saw this thread was Littlefinger. Varys in the books is much more interesting than his show counterpart.
