me and all my friends pretty much play Warhammer 40k, MTG, watch anime/read manga, and we also white water kayak, and mountain bike,
and build armor, we also play alot of video game and Tabletop-RPG in winter months, and Faires and events in summer, this lead most of us to have shed the standard anit social nerd stigma from ourselves, but we see it alot, specially at cons and such, people just too shy or conflicted about talking to "Other" people about you life... don't be ashamed, tell people you like pony or are a furry, your'd be surprised how many people agree with your interests,

I'm in Cincinnati Ohio and there doesn't seem to be any. I'm not a student, so showing up at Uni. Cincinnati is not an option.

It is not hard for me to find anime fans. I like a hour drive from Austin. So it is not that hard for me.

I unfortunately work a job where I end up seeing a good portion of the anime fans in the area at some point or another, and I wish I didn't have to. Most of the people that are into anime around here are either annoying kids that scream about dumb crap or adults that live in their parents' basement and have no life or job while living off their parents' income.

I mean of course there are some around here that aren't those sorts of stereotypes, but they're few and far between and hard to identify because they don't want to stick out and get bothered by the aforementioned types of people.

Assuming there even were any kind of anime events or meet-ups in my area I feel like everyone would be at least a decade younger than me. A year or so ago I was checking out a local hobby shop and noticed they were having a weekly MTG event. My first thought was "I could dust off my old cards" then I realised all the players were under 20yo except for one Neckbeard of the Twelfth Order who might have been pushing 25 and probably worked there.

I think I'm fine without friends. At least for now. Maybe I'll go look for and make friends later. Like when the people around me stop being incredibly stupid.... Wait that means never.

Most of my fellow anime fans in my area whom I've met are much younger than I, so there's really no social connection.

There's meetup.com, some places may even have several anime meetup groups.. Also local colleges sometimes have an anime club and most are generally welcoming (to a degree) to non-students. Anime groups can be quite a mixed bag though.

As for age, in my experience, a lot of people attending anime groups are 20-30 ish.
