First of all I've never seen anything of Berserk before. And so far I enjoy watching it. They didn't explain much but it's the first episode and they showed enough to give us an idea about what could have happend. The soundtrack is pretty good. I don't really like the ending (no surprise, I'm not a big ED fan) but the rest sounds nice.

The animation:
I don't have a problem with CGI. I actually think that it's something that can look good when you make an anime with a darker theme but it almost looked like they didn't really know how to use it. The shading was too much. It looked good sometimes but when you have a scene with fast movements it's distracting. And I have a problem with the color scheme. Colors are so important when you make this kind of CGI anime and they just used the "old" color scheme from the manga (or at least that's how it looks like. I haven't seen every colored manga page). I understand why they did it but as a Berserk-newbie I would be happier if they would have modernized it.
But I'm not going to drop it because of the animation. It wasn't as horrible as expected.

More so than any other Anime, far more so, far far far and away more so, this is truly a second season 20 years in the making.

This isn't a similar case to Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay from a few years back. This is an actual continuation of an actual anime that is actually set prior to this show.

Starting here is similar to starting on episode 30 of Full Metal Alchemist, or 14 of Parasyte, or 300 of One Piece, or well...ANYTHING where you don't start at episode 1.

This is part 2, no questions to be asked. The original Anime/Manga opens with this too-edgy to be taken seriously Gut's, and immediately goes into a long multi-arc backstory of Gut's, from his Childhood to his Teens to Adult hood, all leading up to the character we see here.

This entire show hinges on that. The opening recap's all the important events that take place prior. The opening seconds showcases the last moments of the original.

And no, this isn't up for debate. You're starting in the middle of a show here. Go baaack, GO BACK!

this isn't even a second season 20 years in the making, the CGI looks like it was made in hours and they skipped roughly 118 chapters or 34 chapters depending on how you view it.
This adaptation is disgusting

Absolute best way to describe people who haven't seen season 1.

Yeah I know that . But before I start reading the manga I wanted to know if it's even worth it. Seems like I should do it especially since I don't have much to read at the moment anyway.

Episode 1

It was pretty good. I especially liked the OP. They adapted bits and pieces of chapters one and two, and then tried to meld it with parts after the Lost Children Arc. It worked out for the most part, but it felt a little too fast and jumpy. I think the pacing will slow down once they're comfortably into the Conviction Arc (so what, episode 3?).

In any case, I'm just glad we're finally getting a post-Golden Age adaptation. Feels good.

Okay so I seen read most of the Golden age arc and a few of the manga. But I like what I saw the Cg does take a bit getting use to but I like the direction and the art style does fit.

Looks like there combing a few arc with the meeting of Puck and that kid who name I don't remember at the moment.

I'll keep watching anyway..

Having seen shit knockoff CGI, this is a fair cut above it even if it's not perfect. Won't stop the complaining but w/e.

Imo the Golden Age arc (the first one, this here being the second arc) is the most worth it part of Berserk by miles.

Wait. You don't actually think they spent 20 years making this, right?

I don't mind the CGI at all, but seeing how the opening and some shots of the anime were done with traditional 2D animation, it really makes me wonder why they didn't use that in the first place. Thankfully the change between the styles isn't nearly as bad as in the movies, so to me it's no big deal.

Pretty solid adaptation and I enjoyed every second of it. The only thing that bothers me is that seeing the moment in which this episode ended, it's clear that we´re not going to see the Lost Children Arc. It's a shame, but this is still way better than nothing.

Dude I was about to say, that opening looked good. It doesn't matter anymore though.

As for the Lost Children, I can imagine they didn't adapt it because of budgeting. In addition to that maybe because there was too much disturbing parts in it that it would it get censored too much and ruin the adaptation.

I remember reading an article here on CR that it was listed for 24 episodes. Is that true or can someone confirm that? If it is, I wonder how they are going to adapt the Conviction arc in 24 episodes without the Lost Children arc...

All right I can respect that, but honestly atleast Guts has all the right to be considered a badass. I've seen many shows in which they force us to think that the MC is the only God in their world, and they're horrible characters, an example would be Tatsuya from The Irregular at Magic High School or Kirito in SAO. I won't tell you what to do and no to do, but I do recommend that you keep watching the anime, the story will be worth it. If you didn't like it in the end, feel free to dislike it as much as you want.

Ahhh wait a moment. I took a closer look now I get it . The Golden Age Arc is a prequel published after the Black Swordsman Arc and the BSA is what we see now but the original anime focused on the GAA. Great then I don't necessarily have to finish the GAA until next Friday .

You have excellent points, but Berserk has always been disturbing despite some really horrible scenes with the Lost Children. I mean the torture scenes that will happen in this arc (if you've read the manga I'm sure you know which ones I'm talking about) that we're getting in the anime are some of the most disturbing scenes I've seen in any story. But anyway, I didn't notice that much censorship in this episode, if I'm going to have an official opinion on censorship, I'll have to wait and see a certain scene involving a horse. That is when we will really know if they're butchering the source material or not.
