IKR. I'm gonna do a lot of cringing during Casca scenes. If I don't cringe enough to the music.

me, brand new to this series: that was super confusing and the panning around and close ups made it even harder to follow..

animation aside, that is not a good way to start imo

also the music is idk i expected to be more... classically dark? lol idk it sounded kinda popish rockish which from what i understand of the series doesn't fit

I posted this on the video, but it's animation is like watching a 2002 era PS2 game's cut scene. People don't feel natural when they move and it makes it hysterical to watch. I'm just gonna read the manga, I'm really interested in this series but i'd rather just read something good than watch something... not good.

So mature shit for the sake of being mature? C'mon, it's evident that this garbage needs something better than mere fan service.

I don't recall ever watching the first season however in all honesty I found it fairly easy to follow what was happening here. I can see there's obviously some details those who know the first season would catch but basically it's a "Bad Ass Acting Bad Ass" story. Nothing wrong with that if the BA is sufficiently BA and Guts looks to fit the bill. (Love the ringing sound when he's swinging the sword.)

That said the animation style is... off putting. And since I'm not uber into BAABA I'll have to see if I can get over the animation style before deciding to watch the whole series (3 Episode Rule). Though one factor that will influence my decision is whether this series is one cour or two.

Why couldn't MadHouse do this adaptation instead? I mean they're like the kings of doing unfinished anime so this should have been a great pick for them.

I really don't get what all the complaints are about, I thought it was fantastic, actually thought the animation worked quite well, and I had no problems with the pacing as other people have commented on. I guess that issue is one only really noticeable to people familiar with the plot from the manga or whatever, because to me it made perfect sense.

(Disclaimer: I have seen both the original series and the film trilogy, as well as having read a few bits of extra information here and there for what was missed out in the Golden Age adaptations)

Many people are not fans of CGI, so there's that. Also the fact that they're skipping the Lost Children arc is a little disappointing. I've read the manga, but I must say I really enjoyed this too. Besides, we don't even know how many episodes this is going to have, but this is the internet, where people like to talk shit about a tv show that has only released ONE episode. We have at least 12 more episodes to go and people are just hating on it, it's ridiculous.

Yeah I get the CGI thing, to be honest I was very sceptical about it, but actually thought it was very well done in comparison to some things I've seen before that have utilised CGI. As regards skipping this arc you referenced, this is what I mean about pacing issues only being noticeable to those that have read the manga, to me it seemed to flow very smoothly straight from the scene at the bar at the beginning to the rest of the episode with Adolf and Collette etc.. Unless people had pointed it out, I would've just assumed that's how the manga progressed as well.

About episode count, unless I'm mistaken I think it was rumoured to be getting 24 episodes, so even less reason for people to hate on it after only a single episode, but I agree either way. What I don't get is that in comparison to other things that have started off with quite negative opinion and then reversed it by the end (e.g. Classroom Crisis), this isn't even remotely bad to me. I get the arc-skipping thing, but that's only a problem when you look at the anime as just a moving and voice-acted version of the manga, rather than an independent work.

According to that, it's going to be 24 episodes. I don't know if that's true since the Lost Children arc is unfortunately not being adapted.

Actually they missed a little arc at the beginning of the manga too, but even with that I thought the episode worked really well. Again, I have read the manga and this episode is really good at giving hints as to why Guts is how he is. For skipping a whole arc, they couldn't have done a better job here, and now that we're really starting with this arc next week, the real story will finally begin. The only problem now is how bad the censorship will be. If everything goes right, there should be a very disturbing scene next week, maybe the week after if the pacing slows down a little bit. if they ruin it, then people will have a lot more valid reasons to hate on this, but for now, I just think people are exaggerating too much.

Well, the Tower of Conviction covers a lot of side stories with different characters, so I believe there is enough material to make 24 episodes out of this specific arc. Let's just hope for the best.

Fair enough. The censorship could be an issue, but what there was in this first episode wasn't that bad in my opinion, nothing will ever reach JoJo levels of censorship cringe in my eyes. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see what the next few episodes bring.
