I would say that I appreciate that there's another outlet for BD/DVD releases (regardless of the prices thereof), but so far, the series shown here aren't regarded very highly in this community that I'm aware of (except Gintama, Free! and Yamada-kun, which is great for the many fans for those series which includes me for the latter!!).

You just named 3 of the 7 titles listed as exceptions to your impression of the shows not being very highly regarded. That's, um, almost half. So a generalization that the series shown aren't highly regarded seems a bit out of place.

It will be interesting to see what else comes up.

I don't purchase physical media and merchandise much, but I think this a really important step if they are going to play in the same park as Funi--especially now that Funi is becoming competition in the streaming outside of US/Canada markets.

And that's a good things, in the long run. Also, like I said, it's from what I've heard regarding those shows, so I'm aware of this generalization. I'm just afraid their list of licensed shows would help in this venture's premature demise, you know?

Yeah, my reaction exactly. It's unimpressive except for about half of the acquisitions?

Once someone recognizes that their tastes are not universal facts but rather personal preferences, it's bizarre to basically say, "this is not a very impressive lineup, except for one out of eight I really like and one out of four that I concede a lot of other people really like."

Crunchyroll has the viewership and demographics for a wide range of anime, they are well placed to figure out what there is a demand for out of whatever happens to be available for licensing (and we have no way to know what was available for pick up that they choose to pass on).

Yeah. If Funimation had been willing to stream titles on Crunchyroll, it's likely that Crunchyroll would not have been pushed to move into physical distribution.

Crunchyroll branching out into physical media? This is almost as weird as the time Amazon.com opened a retail store.

Seriously though, I think that Crunchyroll becoming a DVD/Blu-ray distributor could prove to be beneficial for the anime industry in the West. I mean, anime DVD/Blu-ray are expensive to buy at the best of times, in comparison to other single releases and boxsets. If Crunchyroll can help to stabilise and even reduce the price of anime DVD/Blu-ray for consumers then that would be welcome news indeed.

Well this is a game changer in the distribution game. Especially for Funimation and Sentai Filmworks. It's still great to hear another player in the distribution game for DVD/Blu-ray. Competition is a great thing for an industry.

Sadly, none of these titles really tickle my fancy but I'm curious what the other ones are. Sounds like you got a big lineup of titles at the ready.

This is very interesting news and I'm interested to see how this goes. I collect quite a fair bit on Blu-ray so this move definitely will have some impact to me (in the way of getting more series released). I'll be curious to see how pricing looks.

Interesting. I'm not interested in any of those shows, and the shows that I do like have been released sub-only by others so they're presumably not up for grabs, but this is still good.

I'm curious as to who'll be doing the dubs. Bang Zoom has been spotty as of late, but they seem like the go-to studio...

That CRTC approval of a Gintama dub now makes sense. So Canadian dub huh? That will either be great or shitty depending on which studio does it.

These news are impresive!, but as a non-North American person I'm assuming this won't be available in my region, but I want to believe that sooner or later you may consider the posibility to release your dvd/bd region free with subtitles in all the lenguages you translate the anime streamed here.

Regarding Kabaneri, is there a chance that it'll be available here for streaming outside the countries where Amazon Prime is already out?, that would be nice

Most of these are good ideas. Gintama, though...as much as I love that show, dubbing it sounds like a tall order considering its length and the skill required to make a comedy work. At the very least, I hope this works out for ya.

Man, I'm really conflicted on this. I really want to be happy, because I love CR and am all in favour of them branching out and expanding to provide even stronger competition to Funimation (and other licensors etc.), and also I'm happy for people that want dubs of shows that previously would have had minimal chance of being dubbed.

However, and this is going to sound really needy and whingey, but as someone that doesn't care for dubs in the slightest, my concern is that Crunchyroll's allocation of funds into dubbing and home release licensing (and actual creation, publication etc.) will limit their capacity to obtain such large streaming lineups... Of course, they'll be making extra money on the home release front, but will they be getting enough to still maintain their current level of licensing, or will they have to cut down in favour of pushing for home release licenses? I'm not sure.

I hope this is only a beneficial thing, but I'll probably remain wary of this for a while unfortunately :c

(Still love you though Crunchyroll!)
