That was way too quick of a cover for my taste. I was expecting (hoping?) for at least like 1.25/1.5 episodes per opening round match.

I don't think it was terrible or anything, but much too fast of a pace I think, maybe, even for people who watched the first season yet never read the manga.

I agree with LionelJeid!! They just proceeded too fast! If I hadn't read the manga, I would be totally unaware of the original story! Let us wish that they had a rough start, only to make it better as they move on with the episodes!

In agreement with some on here. As a manga reader, that match would have been better if they built it up like they did in the manga.

And after finding out this season is only 12 episodes...I have a feeling this will be the pacing for the rest of the season. Each match in this competition was built up pretty slowly to begin with. If they want to make it to the end of the competition, then they will likely be cutting out quite a bit.

Episode 1

Soma is back at it again showing exactly why he's on fire when it comes to cooking. The Autumn Elections begin with Soma squaring off against Alice in the first round of the tournament with the theme being bento. Those two dishes couldn't be any more different as Alice's is laid out vertically and chilled using high quality ingredients, while Soma's bento is vertical and warm using common ingredients. In the end, Soma's dish wins out as he was thinking inside and outside the box whereas Alice was only thinking inside. That feels just like his Shokugeki against Ikumi as Soma thought of the whole package instead of just the flavor. That's a great way to get back into the action.

Glad this show is back. After having been reading the manga for so long, it was a bit weird hearing their voices again.
Preview for next week, which means we should be seeing my favorite scene from the manga.

I am NOT a manga reader... so i am completely ok with the non-filler episodes in fact my preference is dense, meaningful episodes so this will work well for me

To be fair, the tournament took a little TOO long in the manga. Heck, the point I'm at they're only in the final match and I'm pretty sure the last 3-4 volumes (at minimum, too lazy to check) have been the tournament. Given the 12 episodes I think it would be impossible to get through the tournament without blazing through it.

Just watched the first episode and it was great, but WAY too fast paced. Like way, way, WAAAYYY too fast paced. I'm hoping it's because they just wanted to have a conclusive first episode. I feel Alice got a bit cheated. :/ If this fast pace continues the entire season, it's going to ruin the finale which contains my most favorite scene from the series. I'm sure episode 2 will make it clear if this is the pacing for the entire season or not.

Honestly, if it is... it might not even be worth watching. :/

Much rushed, it is. That said, when they got to the battle it was great as usual. Just wish they were adapting it slower so it has time to breathe and settle. Too much constant progression going on at once for my liking. Hope it settles in a bit come next time now that we are in the battles again.

I pretty much read past the competetion part in the manga and I agree , its long but there are stories inbetween

They did cover a lot to finish it in one episode butI feel they did that so that there is more time to cover the more important story parts

This one covered Chapter 62 -66

Next round covers Chapter 67-72

I think we were all a bit disappointed the episode flew by, considering the buildup to this point in the story. Maybe they thought the story would be a bit difficult for new viewers to get into and decided to rush to a more dramatic part. The ED pic of Megumi is pretty badass, I'm hoping ganster Megumi will become a thing on pixiv, with emo Megumi and bad girl Megumi fanart showing up. Like so:

Ep 1

Definitely agree that the pacing was a bit too fast, which is a shame considering how well adapted the first season was. At least the action started right away, without the need for a recap or anything. Can't complain too much though, because the match between Soma and Alice was great. Both chefs brought their skills to the table, but Soma proved his ability to think outside the bento box. Pretty sure Alice got more attractive too, so I'm happy. Can't wait for the polar opposites of Megumi and Ryou to duke it out.
