My impressions:
1. If/when Funimation or whoever dubs this, assuming its not too rough, can they possibly ship this out to Nickelodeon? That place could use some de-crappification.
2. Looks like they really cranked up the moe-ness in this incarnation
3. Holy !@#$ the CGI dancing isn't hard to watch! hallelujah!!
4. Even though I watched the first show thanks to Erica Mendez promoting it at Katsucon, just how in the sam hill did this show, this franchise get so hyped in America of all places?!?!

All in all, I'm impressed

Ep 1

Like many others, I have reservations as to whether or not the cast and story can stand on it's own two feet without relying on the original series too much. That said, I liked the first episode despite the fast pace. It's going to take a few more episodes to see how Sunshine differentiates itself. Characters are likable too, I'd say. Chika is cute, but I think You is my favorite. May or may not jump on the Yoshiko bandwagon before long. Can't wait for more.

improvements in cgi is very much expected, considering that there's a 2 year gap between the original Love Live and this new one.
didn't find it particularly impressive tbh, though it wasn't bad at all. quite the opposite, actually.
i can't say i agree that characters being more expressive means that they're "stronger" / better developed.
it's not how well they make funny faces on the screen, but rather their background story (which will surely be revealed in the coming episodes). their dreams, and how they change over the course of the episodes.

I see! For the CG, I do feel it was better and more tolerable compared to the first series.

I do agree that their personalities and stories coming into light will help develop their character. Them being more expressive adds to that and will make their backstories that much more impactful, in my opinion.

I can't wait for the next episode and thank you so much for taking time to read! It means a lot!

your blog seems well organized btw. the layout is pretty nice.
i'm not too sure about them using too much muse material right in the first episode. a simple poster and an image on their phone with muse characters was more than enough, but they went further - they used the soundtrack and several seconds was dedicated to show the muse themselves... it would be nice if they used an Aquors background music (maybe they'll do in later episodes)

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP SHOUTING

That is the biggest impression I take from the first episode. I swear Chika spends all twenty-three minutes of it with her mouth wide open. Granted, I have never been a big Honoka fan, either, but you all are correct: Chika dials it up to 11, and not in a good way.

Thus far, I am liking Yoshiko, Riko, and (especially) Dia. Dia is a bit of a surprise, since I was skeptical about her character design, but ... there is something about her. Guess we will have to see what next week (or this week, for Funi watchers) brings.

Episode 2
They still rely pretty heavily on μ's pretty heavily (in fact probably more here than in the first episode) but I found this to be a really enjoyable episode regardless. It was way more focused on a few of the characters and less on a "Hey let's introduce everyone as a single cliche you can remember." Chika still teeters on the line between annoying and endearing but has some nice moments. You kind of steals the episode with her costume design bit. And Riko continued to be best girl so far. She's definitely looking to be a character who has some real depth and history. Dia gets a few moments and reveals she's a not so closeted μ's fangirl. Ruby is still, sadly, just a teenaged baby.

Nice episode and some nice story development. Can't wait for next week.

This pose though....beautiful.

Another wonderful episode this week with music and friendships. I love the piano instrumental tune as well that makes the episode quite a soothing experience.

Episode 2

Good to see things moving along now.

I wonder how many episodes this will be? Also, best girl only got very little screen time. What is this? XD

Ep2 and the momentum continues to build. Not sure if this is a one cour or two cour series though I'm hoping two. I enjoyed the focus on Riko. The recital scene gave me a Your Lie in April flashback. Chika must be in great shape to be able to hold onto the railing like that and not fall. (That or had her foot hooked on something we couldn't see.)

"Yume no tobira zutto sagashi tsudzuketa
Kimi to boku to no tsunagari o sagashiteta"

Full version is a must ;-; Don't let it be like Maki's Aishiteru Banzai prepro piano mix which is just half a song

Anyways great episode getting all the funny parts done: Dia's big reveal as a giant fangirl of u's errr sorry μ's, Chika showing us how to lure little girls into our vans and being a dirty old man in general and, Poor Yosh...Yohane's mental breakdown. Afterwards, getting more serious by showing us Riko's failure as a pianist and Chika and You (mostly Chika) her find inspiration in the scene underwater which looked beautiful. We did get a little more humor after that with the introduction of Chika's sisters and showing of Riko being the new straight man of the 2nd years (a total shoutout to Umi, but with her own scary face version)

Then that last scene... that's what really hits. I thought they'd just play the original one where Riko listens and finds inspiration. Never thought she'd sing it herself!

I think one of the big differences is that they are prepared to let the characters personalities overlap a lot more. With the first series, they had nine very separate character types. Because they were so desperate to keep them distinct, at times it kept them rather bland as not to blur into another characters personality. Which meant with the except of Nico, and maybe Maki as a foil, they never felt like they had a huge amount of depth. Kotori was the biggest offender literally "Soothing type who like fashion". Whereas You and Chika it's difficult to say how they are different to each other, except Chika has more energy.

I honestly didn't think I was going to like this, and thought it was going to be a lukewarm rehash of the original. But I'm loving how much thought has gone into how the characters and how they react, in the little attentions to detail. Like in the scene with Dia and Chika in episode 1, where Dia slams the desk, writhes in pain, Chika laughs and Dia regains her composure and glares back at her.

In the character bio, it says Dia joins after losing a contest, so that's clearly going to be about muse then.

Episode 2: Catch the Transfer Student

Muse as a concept for starting is fine. People usually copy the greats before they find their own style anyways. Trying to be like them starting out but then later on they are sure to find a way to differentiate themselves from Muse.

Wonder how many questions people got wrong when Dia gave that pop quiz to Chika. I only got the venue question wrong, but I got everything else right.

Riko is definitely the Umi of the group XD. When she went to their house to write lyrics and Chika was goofing off. That face was cute and scary I don't know how she does it.

Anyways looking forward to the next one. Also Riko's rendition of Yume no Tobira was beautiful.
