I gave this series a chance because I enjoyed the humor. Something about adult-looking characters with serious voice actors making jokes about poop and private parts strikes me as being especially funny.

However, this series fell apart when it tried too hard to be serious. For example, I thought that in episode 5, Kaho majorly overreacted when Kanade and Joji suggested that they be a trio who hangs out and plays together. From episode 1 I had interpreted her feelings for Kanade as an innocent crush. I didn't expect her to actually take it seriously and expect him to act like an adult.

I mean, she didn't seriously expect a fifth grader to actually understand the concept of romance, did she? How dumb is she? I have nephews that are around Kanade's age and the only thing they're in love with is Minecraft. They think girls have cooties. So the already-flimsy suspension of disbelief was broken at that point for me.

If this series had been played as a straight up comedy, it would have easily made my top 5 series of all time. But since the tone of this series has been skyrocketing between comedy and drama at such breakneck speeds, I'm going to have to drop it. Which is a shame, because it really had potential.

Despite some serious moments, and the last few episodes more serious than at first ( I just watched # 10), it is the funniest thing I've seen in... perhaps my life.
To those of you who POOPed all over this show, you're a bunch of little WIENERS.
Everyone, make a note to yourself to watch this again on your 45th birthday. If you don't find it hilarious then, well, wow, your life sucked.
Yours truly,

The premise seemed ridiculous, so I thought the first episode was hilarious. I guess a lot of what made it funny for me was how many adult actors play high school students on television so seeing Kanade and his friends wearing fifth grader outfits and seriously acting like children was pretty funny.

Then things got weird and I had to start asking questions. Questions like, if the genders were reversed would it still be funny? Is this show supposed to be an example of unreliable narrator like Lolita? What is wrong with those kids (are they going to keep growing and be giants as adults or is it a weird genetic quirk)?

My current hypothesis is that it's a red herring. I've noticed that Kaho looks really young for a high school student and that perhaps it's a convoluted way to get around censorship. Emotionally and story wise he is the child, yes. Physically however...

That said, I'm rooting for Taga Atsushi. She wanted someone to be mean and brutally honest to her. That was the whole point of her going to live by herself - she didn't want to continue to be pampered. I wonder what would have happened if Taga had been mean to her first?

EDIT: So after watching the final episode... I volunteer a slow clap for the fact that this show managed to make me question once more - "WTF am I watching???". Also, Kanade's hair did that weird thing that happens to Kaho all the time and I am concerned. What is that? Why does it happen? You are not a magical girl Kaho.

I still choose Taga.

So unsatisfying. I realize that a lot of shows end with an unfinished feeling when the manga is ongoing or they can't fit it into one season but this is definitely one of the worst ways to end it. It will definitely affect how I rate and review it.

Last Episode:

Animation staff thoughts to all the shoujo anime/manga
female fans all over the world

First time that I see a production staff blatantly troll their audience, planned beforehand and cold blooded, but omg was it so funny.

But seriously, hahaha, I really liked the silly gags.

Poor Kaho tho, she deserves something better, I gotta admit that. :3

I'm not familiar with the source material, but I'll say, it gave a strong impression of having been dreamed up by a group of very drunk and/or very sleep-deprived people. It probably seemed hilarious at the time, and then short on time they had to go through with it even though someone must have wondered "Oh god, what were we thinking??"

I'm not very big on silly gags, and this show's been kinda running along the edge in terms of what I enjoy. I would have found this more tolerable as something to fill a timeslot somewhere in the middle, but it appears to the be the ending episode and I did want something sweeter and tidier and less cray-cray p**p w**n*r.

I agree with ya on that. To me, was more like a shonen rather than a shoujo, I am sure that 90% of the shoujo female fans dropped it at the second episode. But made me stay 'cus I got it wasn't a proper shoujo and just let the good times flow. I don't know the author, but seems that the plot is something a guy could of thought of.

Edit: Well, author is Akira Hiyoshimaru, maybe is a pseudonym, but if not, yup, he is a guy. :3

Eh...that was just a weird finale. I think the show was aiming for something a bit different and ended up having way too much fun with itself especially with the dog jokes.

Meh show overall, can't remember one episode that I thought was memorable.
