Synopsis

Kazamatsuri, a modern, well-developed city renowned for its burgeoning greenery and rich Japanese culture, is home to Kotarou Tennouji, a high schooler least privy to the place's shared values. Content to fill his pockets with frivolity, the proud and nosey boy whiles away his time pestering the self-proclaimed delinquent Haruhiko, and indulging in his amorous feelings toward the oddball Kotori.

Equipped with the superhuman ability to permanently rewrite any part of his body to multiply his strength or speed, Kotarou is naturally drawn to the supernatural. One special meeting with the lone member and president of the Occult Research Club, the "Witch" Akane Senri, leads to Kotarou reviving the Occult Club by recruiting Kotori and three other members: the clumsy transfer student Chihaya, the strict class representative Lucia, and the unassuming Shizuru. As Kotarou unveils hidden secrets of each member of the Occult Club through their shared adventures, he will inevitably

Haven't seen the first episode yet as its still being released onto the tablet CR platform, but i really hope they don't pull a little busters or Charlotte with this one. I really can't imagine how they would be able to fit rewrite into a 13 episode season so i hope they don't try. The Visual novel is one of the largest ever written, in like the top 5 overall in terms of line count. Even if they gut all of the side routes out of the novel, i still don't see it fitting in 13 episodes.

It was alright, 1 hour special and felt kinda rushed. Just a shame it's 1 cour but whatever.

They got most of the character chemistry right in particular the main guys. And Lucia is also awesome..

It's exactly what it sounds like and is what is blatantly obvious from the title image. Meh. Some nice art and cute characters but I couldn't even make it through the first episode.

I didn't know a thing about it going in but enjoyed it enough to keep watching.

Wow I didn't even see any word of this adaptation coming. This is a difficult VN to convert to anime, as there's an extraordinary amount to cover both in specific character narratives and the broader thematic sense. Fortunately a few of these characters overlap considerably enough that they can feasibly get away with covering most of the routes without them feeling too disjointed. Ultimately I'd say they did a decent job with the exposition and making a few important but problematically obscure side characters visible and relevant earlier in the story, though it does feel quite forced. I suspect that with character introductions largely out of the way they can inject more fluidity into following episodes, as this one often felt like they were suffocating us with incessantly crashing waves of structural framework for the various storylines to follow.

I miss the more subtle, measured buildup to those inevitably dark supernatural elements that the VN communicated too. That's another thing that Clannad did brilliantly and my relative perception is that they've again dumped a few pivotal reveals on us very prematurely here.

Anyway even if they bugger up the story a bit I'll still hang around to enjoy the amusing moments from the VN made animate. Holding out for the Yoshino song and more random outbursts of English from Kotori.

Post-script: Shizuru best girl.

Yeah well you more or less said everything that has been bothering me since they announced they would try to adapt rework into an anime. After what happened with Little Busters! (via JC staff) I was happy to see a different studio pick up rewrite but given that they are only doing 13 episodes, the story can't really be anything but rushed. Ultimately, we are talking about trying to shrink down a story the size of Clannad (plus after story) or Little busters (plus refrain) to a 13 episodes size. If they plan to continue using double length episodes and remove most of the side routes than I could see it sort of working but some how I don't think that's what they are going to do (very few anime get hour long episodes).

Anyways, still going to try to watch it because I really liked the Visual Novel. just kind of wish that Kyoto Ani decided to give rewrite the Kanon/Clannad treatment instead of wasting their talent on shows like Myriad Colors Phantom World.

Edit: maybe 8bit will give it the Gurizaia no Kajitsu treatment by splitting it into 2 seasons with a large movie like episode in between.

I didn't even realize this was out already. Wasn't paying attention to release schedules lately. Gonna have to get on this soon. Haven't watched any new simulcasts in a few seasons. Hopefully the one cour thing doesn't backfire though.

Haven't read the VN yet, but I've been meaning to. I always wanted to see what would happen if 07th expansion and Key did some kind of collaboration, as I find their themes similar(Dead serious), and lo and behold they got Ryukish07 to write Lucia's route.

OT - Ooh, speaking of 07th expansion, that reminds me the PS3 style version of the first half of Umineko has finally gotten a official licenced translated version and is being released in 6 days on July 8th on Mangagamer, for those who've been waiting for a legit version of the VN, as it hasn't been available since they took the original Japanese version out a while back.

I doubt the Ryukishiness will transfer over to the anime (I don't think they will even cover that part), but from one fan to another, you should read the rewrite vn. His umineko style writing is all over Lucia's route. It is a really good route to read as a ryukishi07 fan. A lot of the mystery style writing seems to be completely gone away in the anime. I am not saying the anime is bad, it is just very different. It has been converted to more of an action anime it seems.

FYI rewrite+ will come to steam, you might want to wait for that rater than importing, it will be cheaper on steam most likely and it will have harvest festa with it.

You know Ryukishi07 is a key fan right? He even said that it influenced him some. A lot of key fans are Ryukishi07 fans actually.

Yeah I'll have to pick that up when it comes to steam. I tend to prefer to wait for legitimate translation options, or at least ones supported by the creator(Like Witch-Hunt was for Umineko).

Yeah pretty sure I remember him mentioning Jun Maeda at one point or another. I figured Japanese fans would have noticed the similarities do to their greater exposure, but since the two studios tones are so contrasting I don't think many western anime fans would have say noticed the similarities between say Little Busters and Higurashi unless they watch a ton of different genres, as it seems like they draw pretty different audiences when not going into it by reference.

I mean the person who likes romance and drama is going to be drawn to Keys stuff, and the person who likes dark/edgy stuff is gonna be drawn to 07th expansion naturally, even though Key has some pretty dark aspects to pretty much all there stuff, and Umineko is probably one of the best romance stories you'll ever find. Its just in the west there's a lot more word of mouth when it comes to what you get exposed to.

Episode 1

The first episode turns out to be almost 48 minutes dam. First almost all the characters have caught my attention from kotori to the bad boy and even the transfer student. I won't get into that much explaining due to being a long episode but will say for sure that the comedy parts are funny. I enjoyed the first episode and look forward to more.

I was so confused I was positive I wasn't paying attention between MC-kun showing Cherries-chan around town and like the last 13 minutes. Though my curiosity was piqued up until then, I'll keep watching just so I can get answers to all these questions I may or may not have missed the answers to or have yet to be revealed.

Episode 1

So it begins with Kotarou meeting up with his friends, both old and new as Chihaya is a transfer student, and while that's happening something supernatural is happening to him. It turns out that there is something that was biting him in the arm, and that cute girl leads him down towards a monster that she defeats. Things went pretty quickly there, but nevertheless it sets the stage for big things to go down. That was a pretty good first episode seeing that it is double in length after all.
