I have a feeling they might botch the adaption, in the VN I had the feeling of an ordinary life (sort of) then some weird stuff happens then some really weird shit happens. It sort of just jumped straight into the weird stuff without the buildup but I got to see an animated chibimoth so I can let it slide.

I ended up really liking Kotori though I hadn't heard of this before and only watched because I was bored.

Re-write is one of my favorite visual novels of all-time. The scenes with Yoshino always cracked me up. Will be interesting to see how this show turns out.

To those who have played this game

Do I need to have prier knowledge of the other routes to watch this anime? Or can I watch it freely and not be confused. I have not watched the first episode yet; because I know this is based off a visual novel but also an original story, so I don't want to be really confused if they keep referencing other routes and feel left behind. Should I watch it or read up on the story before diving into this anime?

Well this a rather interesting and cute show. Always nice to have a 40 minute episode for the 1st episode.

Honestly I would just do whatever you want to. The anime may be more confusing since it won't be as long, nor does it have all the routes. At the same time the visual novel is really long, I would avoid reading spoilers for anything though. But to answer your question, you can watch the anime without reading the vn. The anime adaption will be much shorter and it isn't the full rewrite experience. All of the routes will not be in the anime from what I heard.

No, I don't think you will. I'm not sure if this series is going to play out by showing multiple routes or just going through what is considered the true route, but pretty sure you don't need to play the VN to watch it.

For all the people asking about whether or not to read the visual novel before watching the anime. Here's what i will always say with regards to visual novel adapted anime (except in the case of the big three from Kyoto Ani); the visual novel will almost always be better simply because Key molds their stories to fit the visual novel format much better than that of an anime. Rewrite is not a very linear story line and as a result, it might end up being a bit more confusing as an anime than as a visual novel (its already plenty confusing and complex as it is).

That being said, if you don't have 50 hours to play through a visual novel you may not like, than watch the anime. If you like some of what you see and think you want more then go ahead and play the visual novel. As far as I can tell, even if they do give us 1 hour episodes for this show, it won't really cover everything from the visual novel because its simply too long. I mean, imagine trying to condense both seasons of Clannad down to 13 episodes and you will understand why I say this. Given what 8-bit has done in the past with their visual novel adaptations however, its possible that they have a 2nd season lined up for Rewrite (they did Gurizaia no Kajitsu and had two seasons though perhaps that was just because they were adapting a trilogy of novels).

If they choose to just go down the true route than its definitely worth going back to play through the other routes just to see what the other characters are all about. Lucia is definitely one of the best heroines in this game and so is Akane.

On another note, I just hope we don't have a repeat of the mess that was Little Busters!. While Rewrite is definitely more suited to the anime format than Little Busters was, some of the plot devices could ultimately be very problematic.

I really enjoyed the first episode. The scenes with Yoshino were hilarious and the first scene when the witch enters his room creeped me out!

I dunno. I'm confused. I haven't done the VN, so all this about acceleration/accelerator or whatever is confusing, since it seems to be fundamental. Well, cause the girls are cute, I'll stick with it in the hopes they'll explain necessary stuff soon.

Guys it's been confirmed 13 episodes and it's going to adapt an original route.

The VN had a very slow build that was awesome and satisfying, but the first episode already sounds like they introduced the "accelerator" which blows.

Anime onlys are gonna be so confused it's not even gonna be funny. This will be a cluster fuck and a shadow of its former self, guaranteed.

Clannad I thought did a pretty good adapting Nagisa's route mainly because it gave it enough episodes and that was the only really important route imo. Rewrite is one of those novels that needs all the pieces of the puzzle put together to make it all make sense. So it'd need all routes to be adapted and that would make it 48+ easily. This was always gonna be a hard one to adapt unfortunately, they should have waited till a more capable studio and production committee could give it the love it needed, but seeing as they want to put out Rewrite+ this Fall, this is nothing more than promotion for the remake VN than a genuine adaptation.

And thank you mow123 for telling me Rewrite+ is coming to steam. I did not know this!

well then let this anime be promotion, let this person watch it then when they feel like something was missing, everyone tells them to play the vn..... then they go play the vn.... that is how this anime is suppose to work, ease in those anime fans to try the vn. They are putting effort into this anime, it is just low budget. This isn't suppose to be the full rewrite experience after all....

Oh btw fyi tomoyo after is out on steam, and Angel beats vn was said to be 50% translated (official release). only god knows when little busters PE will come.... I've been waiting forever for the rest of LB....... hopefully Harmonia comes out soon too....

well harmonia is slated for 2016, I can imagine them putting it out before they release rewrite+ or a few months after because they don't want their own VNs to complete with one another.
