Like a lot of shows, there are often certain things that you can easily predict will happen. With certain types of shows, you can also predict what is bound to happen because it follows certain troupes and clichés. In fact, some clichés are in hundreds of anime. Many characters fit into certain archetypes and you can predict their behavior as well. Even with new shows that are coming out each year, sometimes I feel that it is too easy to predict what is going to happen in a show because I have just watched so many shows. Is there a point when nothing surprises you or are there still shows that can deliver solid plot twists that you don't see coming? Leave comments below

I've always been able to predict a story line ever since I was a child. I read a lot. It's no different with anime. There are a few times when I do get genuinely surprised though. I could see that the boy would be targeted in Erased. I didn't expect him to survive.

The only way I'm ever surprised anymore is how bad a show can be.

Well played, sir.

Oh, and I forgot to mention Sekkou Boys which is a) AOTY and b) a short series about plaster busts of classical sculptures that are just starting out as a pop idol group.

Yeah, once you're around for enough years watching things, it just happens. That doesn't make it any less enjoyable to me though.

With the number of anime series and movies I have seen my general answer is yes for the vast majority of the shows.
However I am still surprised by the direction and concepts of a shows every once in a while.
From my recent viewing these shows surprised me from a good point of view

• Parasyte
• Foodwars
• Tokyo Ghoul

Unfortunately there are so many more that surprised me by how bad they are even when the plot and concepts are so simple the creators can draw from so many good examples on how to proceed.

I once thought of starting a forum on anime series that were so bad you could not stop watching hoping that something would change! (Like watching a really bad train wreck in super slow motion)

Yeah. I feel like sometimes I watch shows just to be surprised lately, Phantom World is a great example of something I watched for the sole purpose of being surprised. I'm waiting to see if my prediction for the Nisekoi manga ending is right. So far the only story that has surprised me consistently atm is Gakkou Gurashi. I'm expecting Taboo Tattoo one of the few change-of-pace shows this season.

No... Only ero-anime is good, regular anime is shit.

Not really, there are some anime that don't really flow how you want it go. Example: My Teen Romantic Comedy.

At some point you can make some good blanket judgments. Only a few shows will really impress anymore, as you can lump a show into categories. Especially the generic shows we get each season.
