Everything starts out all cute and happy..... then we get to the picture of the deceased mother. NO! DON'T YOU DO IT! STOP! RIGHT NOW!

Tsumugi is adorable, but I have to wonder if she understands her mother has passed away? It was hard to tell from Kouhei's reaction if this was fully explained to her.

Kotori is pretty funny.... "MOM! HOW DO YOU MAKE RICE?"

I can already tell I will enjoy this, but back to my original point...... don't pull anything, show. I'm keeping my eyes on you.....

That was a cute episode, though I wasn't as moved as I hoped to be. Enjoyed the realism and interactions like others have said.
Can rice actually be that delicious? I've had rice all my life and it's simply plain to me .

Two things to note:
- Inuzuka seems to have told Tsumugi that her mother has gone away somewhere (on a trip perhaps), as Tsumugi mentioned "writing a letter to Mommy", so that might be an emotional tool used later
- Not sure on Kotori having virtually no distance between her and her sensei; she looks to be the shy type but she seems way too open for a highschool girl? It is early days though.

Don't know if either of you are parents, but I just wanted to point out that it can be very difficult explaining the concept of death to a young child who has never before encountered it. With no reference points, they have trouble interpreting your explanations, often settling upon some version of "gone away" as the closest thing they do understand. Death can seldom be explained in one sitting to a young child.

It was nice. I read the manga and the anime is living up to it. The voice acting sure is great. Tsumugi make some sincere and surprising sounds that make her cute. I definitely going to watch the rest of the show. Like others said before. Light and sweet.

I love the feel of this one.

I loved Nakamura sweet voice as a fatherly figure coming through with this character and of course its wonderful to hear child voice actor/actor Rina Endo with another young female child character , its been 2 years since Barakamon. She was so cute as Naru's close friend and Naru was wonderful.

The enjoyment of eating a home cooked meal with someone who enjoy it too I can relate to that , it makes me happy when someone enjoys the food I make.

And death is indeed a difficult concept to make a child understand, she must be 3-4 years old.

I don't have children, but I've been around them quite a bit due to my schooling.

I honestly don't know anything about this series and was curious if she just has that hopeful optimism children possess. It doesn't take a genius to conclude that children deal with things different from adults, but there is a difference in whether she was told of her mother's death or not. Forest Gump (another fictional character) was always told his father was "on vacation". I understand that death isn't a subject most children can handle, but I imagine it's even harder for an adult to explain it when they haven't come to terms with it either. Hence my whole "DON'T YOU DO IT" as I can see this being a heartbreaking story.

Amazing first episode. Inuzuka, Tsumugi and Kotori have great chemistry. Its only the first episode, but I've already warmed up to these three.

Immediately smiled and recognized Saori Hayami as Kotori. As I haven't seen Barakamon (some time after this series airs), I didn't recognize Tsumugi's voice. Got to say that she sounds really cute/funny and endearing.

I enjoyed parts of the manga, and this first episode was fun to watch, so I'm in on the hype train, too.

Got to admit, I've always been a sucker for MCs that has experienced a death of someone close to them, so I had a few feels this ep.

People comparing this to Usagi Drop . . . This would be a bad Usagi Drop if in some alternate time line Usagi Drop was a 6/10.

This show feels far more like Barakamon, although as it stands it's just a really bad Barakamon.

Cuteness overload... I might get diabetes from the sweetness... Tsumugi is too adorable.. The kid VA who voiced her is so perfect, it always gets me every time she says "Otousan". She and Naru (Barakamon) are my 2 favorite kid characters in anime.

This shows is certainly sweet. Like the down to earth feel and just general positive vibe from the characters, though there is some depressing circumstances they are dealing with, too. They are making the best out of a bad situation and it warms my heart.

I don't think I've ever watched such a ridiculously sweet and precious show, before, and I think that's down to how real this felt, in comparison to a lot of other things I've watched. The difficult/depressing moments just make it feel so much more genuine, than if it just consistently threw cute moments at you.

I'm so very much looking forward to seeing how this one plays out.

Valid points. And I am likewise unfamiliar with this anime's source material (despite the availability of the manga here on CR), so I too don't know if Tsumugi was actually told that her mother is dead. . .

Suzuko Hara and Daisuke Ono chemistry was awesome in that one,Rina Endo was the best friend. When that show ended the seiyuu in that show were really crying. Endo was 2 years younger .Her character cried a lot in Brakamon

and I am really looking forward to see how she does in this solo role with Nakamura

I have a Funimation subscription so that's neat to know. And yes, I'll definitely check it out. After hearing Tsumugi, it's impossible not to.

I'll wait until this series finishes airing though. Don't want the two to overlap.
