Okay, so I am curious on the best way(s) to store cooked rice when I am not home, like at work, for lunch.
Any advice? About every article I find on the internet only talks about storing rice at home, like in a refrigerator.

How long till cooked rice in a room temperature setting goes bad?

How long till cooked rice in a cooled lunch box goes bad? Is the quality of the rice still good? Need to use a microwave to warm it up?

This might be a silly question but I am wanting to bring rice to work sometimes for lunch and want to make sure it doesn't go bad and that the rice is still fresh and good. Also, it will be a span of 6 hours from the time I leave home to when I can eat lunch at work.

~side note. I also make my own cooked rice in a Zojirushi rice cooker.

In my experience, rice really shouldn't go bad any time soon. Would probably be a few days if you just left it on the counter in an unsealed container (although it would probably get hard before then). If you are just taking it for lunch, it should be fine in a tupperware or ziplock or anything really.

Cooked rice can last pretty long room temperature wise from my experience, probably 14+ hours before you really notice anything. I think 6 hours is fine the quality of the rice won't deminish but if it's freshly made rice the steam will speed that up if put immediately into a container. So your best bet would to either let it cool off for a bit, refrigerate it before hand or put something in the container to absorb the moisture, seaweeds like roasted nori strips will do the trick.

You could always, you know, use a thermal container that keeps things at least warm for several hours.

My mother will leave cooked rice on the stove from morning till the evening.
We reheat in the microwave.

You should cool down rice straight away, if you plan to save it, as bugs grow very quickly in warm rice and can make you very ill.
