Same here. I really should learn though, since I do plan on going back to the Philippines in a couple of years.

Nah, I can speak it. But yes, even when I lived in the Philippines it was never really straight Tagalog. Always had some English words mixed in (but in school we were told to speak English primarily).

I could never really write in Tagalog though... same thing with the reading, I have to read it real slow haha!

Haha! Same!! I almost failed Filipino class once because my reading and vocabulary were so bad. And I definitely hated reading Noli and El Fili. Ughhh... That was so bad. -_-

Woohoo! Join the club! Heh... His life is actually pretty interesting. It's just his works translated into Tagalog that are such a pain to read. I need a Tagalog-English dictionary the entire time I'm reading it. My aunt actually sent me both of those and also Florante at Laura so I can keep practicing reading Tagalog here.

oh, i dont know if it was just our book, but Rizal's life seems to be so exaggerated
i didn't really enjoy reading about his life because the writer (G. Zaide) made it seem like he was writing a fanfic about his hero Rizal = A= too much flowery words and he put Rizal on a pedestal too high that everything sounds like bs when you really read into it @@

it might be different with other authors though, Zaide must've been a real Rizal fanboy XD
