Well I hope the HF movies do a good job of seeing what I am seeing in HF Shirou/Sakura/Kotomine then (I am skeptical b/c alot of HF's awesomeness, comes from the characters introspection and monologues, though there alot of badass fight scenes. )

And sex is not an important factor in the VNs (given that there is a version of them with the H scenes cut out). And no, HF is not about everyone being an asshole, but more about Shirou becoming "human" and not "empty" in some sense, even it means sacrificing the world for one person (which is a decision that F/K Shirou also made in his flashback). Its basically like Shirou becoming the anti-Kiritisugu ie: (sacrificing the few for the greater good) in some senses. It still the darkest story in the Fate franchise I suppose.

And I know VNs are not your thing, but like I said the only way you'll fully experience Bazette as a character is through Fate/Hollow.

Well its being given movies instead of a series so may be a better format to have more of an introspective take. Annoyingly enough there's more lean towards action and flash instead of slower character building in anime (arguably other mediums as well), so I have a feeling their main focus will be on fight scenes. As a secondary there's the manga so if the movies fail to live up to what you're expecting maybe that can be a replacement.

There's actually a manga series so maybe I'll read that instead, cause VN's literally give me headaches and can't really grab my attention.

I don't know I did felt that at least F/K's flashback arc was pretty similar to what HF Shirou goes through all in all, but maybe that's just me. Regardless, as long as you are enjoying the wonders of the Nasuverse :P. As for what I mean as the anti-Kiritsugu, is basically this :

Kiritisugu: Justice is sacrificing the few for the greater good, that is the many is more important than a individual person's wishes.

HF Shirou: The only thing that matters is for me to save this one person. I will turn my back on "Justice", that is saving the many by sacrificing the individual.

And I guess I find being abnormally altruisitic, where Shirou takes it to this extreme, where he doesn't care for his "self" (that is he has no "self") is inhuman. There is a difference between Shirou and typical heroes (ie: in Shounens, superhero shows) version of self sacrifice. Most shonen heroes self self sacrifice to help others, but they still have something of a survival instinct and they do try to at least care for themselves in the process. Shirou on the other hand doesn't even register the need to survive, he automatically, on instinct, sacrifices himself to protect others (as F/K Kalied put succinctly- Emiya Shirou has already died,) so what does it matter if the body he holds dies? To me, Shirou before he resolves his issues in each of the routes, his akin to a fake robot who lives for his ideal (Julian and even Shirou hiimself point this fake aspect of him in F/K's flashback as well). Anyways I digress.

Yeah, though to be fair most of the Fate/Kaleid characters are similar to their Stay Night counterparts (ie:This Kotomine is alot like HF Kotomine, this Shirou is most similar to his HF counterpart, Bazette is pretty much how she was in Fate/Hollow Axtaria, Gil being a mixture of his FSN counterpart and his Hollow Axtaria counterpart ), but of course there are exceptions (ie: Illya b/c of a different upbringing). The Kalided original characters are great too.

I personally think this version of Gil, aka Chibi-Gil, is probably the only version of him I've ever had a positive view of (proof that if one dials back his arrogance, OP, and rape-y aspects I can actually like him). I've heard he's actually not so bad in other versions but for me the F/K version is my preferred version. Main series-Kotomine is meh to me, while Mapo Tofu one is hilarious. Bazette is a complete bamf and F/K shows exactly why she had to killed off early in the main series. I actually prefer non-sociopathic Illya over the sociopathic one in the main series, and honestly I prefer her carrying the "ideal hero" banner than main series Shirou. And ofc
I can't wait to see the rest of this season animated

Gil's personality is 100% dependent on how he views humanity and the world he is summoned in. In FSN and FZ he is absolutely angry at humanity because of how much it has declined since his times. If he is summoned into an era or circumstances he finds himself more compatible with, he is not such a jerk. He will always be arrogant and narcissistic tho.
He is very similar to Saber in that - both Saber and Gil are unable to deal with what became of the kingdoms they created, but while Saber blames herself, Gil blames the world

For example, Fate/Extra Gil absolutely fits the definition of "cocky hero".

Sex is absolutely important in the VN. The version without it does exist but removing the scenes causes horrible plotholes in UBW and literally makes majority of HF plot fall apart.

Also LOLNO, HF shirou

Fate is about Shirou completely embracing his contradiction without regrets .
UBW is about Shirou finding a balance between reality and idealism without treating either as enemy. A shirou who accepts failure as part of life and is able to move past failing again and again.
HF is about Shirou who rejects himself completely.

Episode 3

That was great, the battle wasn't as powerful as the one from season 1 when Illy went Archer mode but still good.

They also adapted Beatrice's personality well. Gil is still a badass in the show too. Meanwhile, I guess they are rushing this somewhat. I also really like the music they've been using for the battle scenes as this episode had a lot of action.

Ep. 3

- Seriously being reminded why chibi-Gil is my personal best Gil!
- omfg at that animation for Enkidu chains *.*
- Even as a manga reader I'm still wondering just what Tanaka is, so Beatrice and I share that xD (Though at least in this verse, unlike the main series-verse, she's not killed)
- Illya in Caster (FSN)-Install mode is too f-ing awesome, its one thing in a manga and another to see it actually colored and animated! It makes my hype for her other installs go even higher xD (Though the one I want to see the most, Berserker-install, hasn't happened )
- That Miyu x Illya stare <3 *.*

Episode 3

And just like that, Illya and company get totally owned in their first battle with the Ainsworths. While Gil may have the power, he underestimates Angelica, and Illya uses Caster totally wrong, and they would have been dead had it not for the real enemy calling off Beatrice's attack. That fight sure was something, but now that Illya has seen what she is up against that she'll need to do some heavy duty training.

Nah fam you need to recheck that, HF Shirou

HF Shirou can be said to reject himself, as that ideal is the entirety of his being before he separates from it. However, I believe the reality is that he learn to separate himself from that ideal, and in its rejection finally comes back to life.

Nasu really has crafted an amazing character in Shirou, one who can be endlessly discussed even more than a decade later.

Episode 4

After everything that happened, things settle down a bit as things about this world are explained, and that Illya needs some serious training to use her class cards correctly after misusing her Caster card. So she tries out the Lancer, Rider, and Saber cards that she got back from Bazett. And of course, Kirei's cooking is a total ripoff but Gil doesn't seem to mind paying. And then there's that yuri kiss there at the end as mana transfer happens through that. That was a needed breather after everything that had been going on seeing that there was so much going on because Illya was just blindly rushing into things.
