Hey guys ive been recently watching the anime mans videos about how to support the industry and he brought to my attention about what the CEO of Crunchyroll said. Very cool stuff. But there is one thing they never answered for me. How can i buy Blu Rays while knowing most of the money goes towards the industry? The CEO said that half goes to amazon, which is sad so now idk if ill buy from them or not. Though they are way cheaper than rightstuf or funimation. But do those sites, rightstuf and funimation support the industry when you buy Blu Rays from them? If anyone can quote this so i can get a notification to read your response that would be amazing, please quote any articles you find that are legit as well! I GOTS TO KNOW!!!!!!

According to
http://www.cpcstrategy.com/blog/2013/10/amazon-selling-fees/
Amazon takes 15% from DVDs and Blurays....definitely far less than the 50% the CR CEO claims.
of course, the CEO likely inflated the numbers to make it seem as though you're not contributing to the anime industry as much by buying the disks.. i'd venture a guess that he also claimed that having a premium membership on CR helps the anime industry a lot more, which is of course BS.

edit: and here's the official page on Amazon about the fees:
https://sellercentral.amazon.com/gp/seller/registration/participationAgreement.html/ref=asus_soa_p_fees?itemID=200336920&language=en_US&ld=NSGoogle

note that BD, while not listed, should be in the same category as DVDs.

thanks for the reply! but these links are for general blu rays and dvds. Im more looking for specifically anime industry related. Like anime blu rays and miku figures etc etc. i realize that its 15% they take anyways but no guarantee thats correct. I want to try and help as direct as possible. Though im not sure if even buying from crunchyroll themselfs if most of the money goes to the creators.

anime bds are no different from other bds. the site i linked is from Amazon itself, so unless they lied (which is very unlikely or they'd be sued), they only get 15% from sale. same applies for anime figures, though the rate is different.

this is just a guess, but i think most of the money that goes into CR is used for advertising and getting more anime streaming rights.
(and site maintenance, paying the staff, etc).

I see, so around 80% goes to the seller? i just have to make sure they are from studios such as section 23, sentai filmworks, etc etc? And buying the BDs off rightstuf/ crunchyroll are in fact helping the industry a little bit?

If you have more money than sense, you could buy the BDs straight from Japan

of course it helps the industry. i forgot to factor-in resellers, in which case the anime company will earn less.
15% applies if you buy directly from the anime company themselves through Amazon, as you pointed out. the rate that resellers get from the sale varies, but you'll still be contributing far more than having a premium cr/funi/etc subscription.

I see. Alright! so i just have to pay attention to the seller then! Though most times is directly from amazon! But now i get what your saying! correct me if im wrong: Me (buyer)= some money goes to amazon= some money goes to section 23= whatever is left over goes directly to industry? Sorry if im being a little dull. i just like to confirm if i think i know something! and what i just said goes the same with rightstuf as well i assume. me= money goes to rightstuf and staff pay= leftovers to industry.
