Even if it's for religious purposes, and not Nazism? What if you lived in western countries, particularly Germany or the USA?

Yes, terrible idea, because even the Buddhist Swastika gets mistaken for the Nazi symbol by too many people.
And trust me, they won't wait nicely for you to explain the difference to them.

yes whilst it's not a bad symbol it was used badly and such people are ignorant to its true meaning and it has been lost.

People are judgemental fools and having one would be a bad idea.

It's kind of like how if a guy helps a lost child people assume he is a pedophile (recent discussion i had)

most of us are judgemental and jump to conclusions and judge based on looks which is truly pathetic but part of us no less.

Personally, I wouldn't care even if you were a skinhead, because it doesn't effect me or anyone I know.

But, if you really want one, almost feel like you have to have one, due to spiritual reasons or whatever, and you want to save yourself the trouble of being extremely misunderstood, perhaps shunned, and have your gene pool entry fee card revoked, I suggest you save up some cash for a full tattoo, make the swastika small in comparison to the full tattoo, and integrate it as a piece in the full tattoo; that way the symbol has proper context, so as to not be misunderstood. Like, say, the tattoo is of an elephant that is standing/balancing on three wheels, and in one of the wheels there's a swastika or some shit, I don't know. That's just an example of how you could integrate it. I mean, I know tattoos are expensive, and painful, but if you're going to go with a swastika, of all things, that's probably the best advice you're going to get, part from "don't get one".

Terrible idea. Any tattoo that requires a lengthy explanation is usually a terrible idea.

I don't like tattoos in general; you're free to use your money how you want.

I believe in germany it is illegal to show a swastika. So this means you can have a swastika tattoo but it has to be coverd up in public.

I think it's probably a bad idea. A person can get one but they should be aware that that comes with consequences such as people thinking you're a monster and being assaulted both verbally and physically.

Weimar-k yourself like that man? It'll only make people Fuhrer-ious. Heck, even a buddist swastika is out of Mein Kampf-ort zone. Might as well send me to Heil! This doesn't feel Reich. Sure, some people will Goebbels this up like the neo nazis they are.
