Pretty decent anime so far. I can see Yatrisno pinning down Ikuta every episode getting old real fast. I'd prefer his character develop and deal with the consequences on his own instead of having this den mother on his back 24/7.

Episode 2: Unwanted Medal of Honor

Ohhh I am liking this show. The beginning sequence was swift and to the point and it looks like that might have been their first time killing a person. Expecting great action, and well thought out battlefield tactics to come.

Ikta is a good character. A nice surprise to know that he was the son of a famous general who served the kingdom at one point. Thinking he despises soldiers or rather the whole government due to what happened with his parents and master.

Yatori I love you and understand you want to protect the princess or keep order, but let Ikta speak. He has good reason to speak up and or get a little physical with the princess.

Anyways very nice strong start, looking forward to more.

This series has my attention as a possible sleeper.

In episode 1 I was wondering why Yatori needed Ikta to help her score at the top of the High Level Officer Training School since it was obvious he wanted nothing to do with military and would do it only for a permanent position away from the military. During the introduction on the ship I could see why the military would want nothing to do with Ikta because of the behavior he displayed. During Ikta’s discussion of Military Chess and playing it blindfolded to simulate battle conditions it became clear that Yatori knew that Ikta had a very keen sense of strategy and tactics from knowing him a long time. Yatori also showed she knows and tries to protect him from his faults particularly in speaking what he knows to be true despite how ugly it may sound and who he may say it to.

In episode 2 his prediction that they would lose the eastern front and good men because of imperial politics comes true. The reward the group is given for rescuing the Pincess (becoming Imperial Knights) is his worst nightmare almost causing him to lose his mind before the Emperor. Later in a carriage ride Ikta accuses the Princess (that he saved) of ruining his life so the people can have something good to focus on other than the intentional loss of the Eastern Front. She responds by telling him he is correct. She reveals that she has researched his pass by telling him he must get his cynicism from his father (Bada Sankrei, a Legendary General who was humiliated and died in prison for disobeying an order) and his scientific method from his mentor (Anrai Kahn Who got asylum a year ago from the enemy after being called a blasphemer by the empire). The Princess was in the middle of talking about Ikta’s mother when he grabbed her and threatened to kill her if she said another word about his mother. Yatori forcefully separated Ikta from the princess telling him she would regrettably have to kill him if he continued. Later in a garden Ikta tells Yatori that she has gotten what she wanted by becoming an Imperial Knight but it is the worst day of his life since the death of his mother. He was forced to become the three things he never wanted to be…A noble, a Soldier, and a Hero. The Princess is around a post listening in.

My questions are:

What was the Princess doing on the ship unescorted and why was she outside the door of the High Level Officer Candidates? She definitely did not know Ikta at that time and Yatori had met her once when the Princess was four.

What happened to Ikta’s mother? By his reaction to the Princess and Yatori’s slow reaction it would appear that the Empire is at fault in some way.

I hope the series continues at this level or higher!

Happy to say, episode 2 was miles better than episode 1. Glad I gave this another shot.

The OP.... reminds me a lot of GATE's OP. Heck, even the ending dialogue about the date and current events mimics GATE.

Quite a bit happened this episode. It certainly helped raise expectations. I guess it says a lot about Itka when he can threaten to kill the royal princess and only gets shoved around a little in retaliation.

I noticed that, as well. I hope Gate doesn't get displaced. A large amount of loved continuation series suddenly disappeared in one season, like Gate.

It's by the same people, Kishida Kyoudan and the Akeboshi Rockets. Lots of their stuff sounds similar due to the guitar. Example. Listen to GATE'S first OP and then listen to High School of the Dead's OP

Its not bad , its got some interesting points.
The Op and Ed are quiet nice. Animation is not bad either but for some reason I don't see much talk about it.

I will follow it and see where the story goes but anime like this takes more than 12 episodes to complete the story

They also did Strike the Blood's First OP, compare that to the HOTD OP

Like the show a lot, but I hope they tweak Ikta a bit. He advocates for reason and logic but he's the one most likely to lose his cool. The princess does too, but she's a child so at least she has an excuse. With Itka, it's kind of annoying.

I can't give an in-depth opinion on this anime yet because I have only seen the first the episode. Never the less I can already tell I will find this show enjoyable. This anime fills the roles of many genres I find interesting. So far it strikes me as a Military/Action/Adventure/ show with a hint of Fantasy. Not a combination I often see executed well.

Here we have a cast of six main characters. All of which have their own unique and familiar personalities and goals. So if you enjoy shows that surround the entire cast of MCs instead of the just the male MC, this is the show for you.

PS. I always enjoy the shows with a scarlet haired female MC.

This series in the absence of any decent Sci-Fi & Mecha series this summer looks interesting!

Easy watching of the first couple of episodes although they did reveal some of the ending (aka Lazy General) so we just have to fill in the pieces as we go along! Nevertheless in my queue!

While its early days yet, this is one of my absolute favorite animes of this season. Not that the competition is all that fierce. The story seems promising, no character too annoying, and even those little mascot-like thingies seem to serve a purpose.

Episode 3

And now, the scene shifts to military training as everybody has enlisted essentially by force. While everybody else is keeping up, Ikta is slacking off and is so full of himself seeing that he values his ladies more so than anything. But he decides that he wants to become the tactical commander, so he challenges Suya to see who can be the better commander in a mock battle. Ikta can sure be a handful, but he knows exactly what he is getting himself into. That battle should really be something. Torway is such a big shot, but his brother, not so much. Anyway, this show is starting to become more engaging now that everybody is in the military and those uniforms look great.
