Same here. Splash screen appears for a second then flicks back to the iPad home screen. Double-tapping the home button shows the app is running, but tapping on it produces the same results.

With the previous version of the app (iPad) I had my content language on Japanese, and for a lot of shows I was able to watch them with no subtitles (as I want). Unfortunately with the new version it automatically switched to English and I don't see an option to change it back. I know the episodes are still out there encoded with no subs ready for an iPad app (since I had access to them right before the update), but is there some setting I can change to access them?

I see a lot of comments on the crashing, so I'll add my experience. My iPad app was crashing after the update, but after a power off / on for the iPad and a delete / reinstall for the app it now works. I have an older iPad (2 maybe?) with the newest iOS it can support.

Are you ever going to add the ability to predownload episodes?

Supposed to be coming "Sometime this year" according to one staff member. No firm date though. Also, almost 100% sure it will be only available for devices that support DRM, the same way Netflix and Amazon do it, so smartphones, android, maybe tablets too, but not browsers or devices such as Roku or Chromecast.

Excellent, predownloading episodes onto my phone to watch at work is an excellent way to kill the time and I'm glad this is coming to Crunchyroll so I don't have to use up so much data.

Still waiting on the ability to predownlaod episodes on the iPhone so I can watch them at work during the quiet periods (no WiFi there). The lack of this feature is the only thing that gives me doubts about continuing my subscription after all these years.

@Muz333 Same deal for me, but with bad wifi that causes episode playback to fail or go into loops. Also I like to watch anime on a certain nature trail where there's no wifi.

I got an email last month about VRV having offline downloads, but... rereading it now, I missed or didn't understand the bold part. I think I thought it was referring to a free trial.

Crunchyroll shows are now available for offline viewing on VRV! Choose episodes to sync ahead of time so you can watch without an internet connection. With access to your shows even while offline, you’ll never be bored again!

With Crunchyroll Premium, you already have access to offline viewing for Crunchyroll shows! Download the VRV mobile app and link your accounts to start watching offline!

So I just tried it on Android and it works - you can create a new free account on VRV, then in the VRV app click the ice cream cone next to Crunchyroll and sign into your CR account to link it. The problem is you have to understand Japanese (I don't), because there's a bug causing subtitles not to appear when you watch offline, at least for me and asharka. http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-980837/introducing-vrv-brought-to-you-by-the-people-behind-crunchyroll?fpid=57023993

See if subs work for you on iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/vrv-anime-game-videos-more/id1165206979

Android link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ellation.vrv

I guess it's good for watching the dubs CR has. http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-788825/crs-english-dubbed-anime

Hope it gets fixed soon. I also had problems where if I disconnected wifi while running the app, it gave an error without any link to my offline downloads, but when I closed and restarted the app while offline, it opened with a link to them and I was able to play the episode I downloaded.

UPDATE, 1/19: Subs are working fine for me now. I'll try to figure out what behavior causes them to load / not load.
